It’s a holiday week in the United States but that doesn’t mean a full stop for Cisco partner news and updates. For starters, we’ve named a new VP of Worldwide Distribution, Julie Hens.
“A 14-year Cisco veteran, Julie is a familiar face to many of our distribution partners and I’m confident she will be a fantastic leader in this global role thanks to her depth of experience and strong relationships,” says Edison Peres, SVP, Worldwide Channels.
Distribution is a critical piece of our go-to-market channel strategy, representing $13 billion a year in revenue for Cisco. We need a strong leader to continue the tradition of programs and relationships we’ve established with our key distribution partners, and it’s with that in mind that I’m very pleased to announce Julie Hens as our new Vice President of Worldwide Distribution.
Julie was most recently our leader for Americas Distribution and in her new role succeeds Scott Brown, who we recently announced as Vice President of the APJC Partner Business Group.
A 14-year Cisco veteran, Julie is a familiar face to many of our distribution partners and I’m confident she will be a fantastic leader in this global role thanks to her depth of experience and strong relationships. Julie began her career at Cisco in the Service Provider Sales Organization and held roles in sales, field operations and sales productivity prior to joining Americas Distribution in 2005. In fact, since 2005 US distribution sales have increased nearly 100 percent. Julie was promoted to Vice President in 2008 and in July 2010 Julie led her team to their first billion-dollar quarter.
If you’ve met Edison Peres, SVP, worldwide channels or heard him address the audience at Cisco Partner Summit before, you know he’s all about partner evolution — specifically, how Cisco can help partners grapple with a unique period of technology and business model changes in the IT industry, and transform their businesses to meet those changes.
During his General Session discussion on Day 1 of last week’s Partner Summit, Edison urged partners to focus on three priorities: making hybrid IT a foundation of your value proposition, leading with solutions and professional services, and transitioning your sales teams to address new buying centers. Business transformation, Edison said, in one of the most repeated (and re-tweeted) quotes of the week, “is kind of like remodeling an airplane while it’s flying and there are people on it. We know it’s not easy. But if you focus on these three areas today, you will be well on your way to a successful tomorrow.”

It’s hard to believe that the 17th Cisco Partner Summit is nearly in the books. It’s been a great week, both here in Boston and throughout our Virtual Partner Summit environment, and the buzz from partners has been as strong and steady as ever.
Day 1 of Partner Summit focused on Cisco’s vision, business transformation and the evolution of the channel. Day 2 covered the unique value proposition of Cisco’s technology, architectures and services. Today’s closing General Session punctuated Cisco’s stated commitment to partners, and that it’s together with partners that Cisco will become the world’s No. 1 IT company.
Today’s speaker lineup brought special guest Mark C. Thompson, CEO and co-founder of Virgil Unite Mentors, and, to close, Chuck Robbins, SVP, Worldwide Field Operations.

Partner Summit officially kicked off today, with partners crowding in to the General Session for the opportunity to hear from John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Bruce Klein, SVP of the Worldwide Partner Organization, and Edison Peres, SVP of Worldwide Channels.
