A load generation framework developed by the UCS Solutions SharePoint engineering team at Cisco performed the load tests and measured the performance metrics while keeping the required response time less than the requested one second service level. Our CVD shares the test results and provides guidelines for better understanding the performance impact of different SharePoint workloads. It also assists in sizing and designing the best farm architecture to support different workloads and recommends the best infrastructure elements for an optimal SharePoint implementation.
Also, this CVD delivers detailed information on how the recommended farm architecture supports up to 20,000 users with 10 percent of the total users working concurrently. It describes how to achieve possible sub-second response time and highlights the performance benefits of the Cisco Servers. The virtualized SharePoint Server 2010 small farm was deployed on multiple virtual machines hosted by the Cisco UCS Rack C240 M3 Servers, using Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 with Microsoft Hyper-V™ instead of a conventional solution deployed on physical servers. Well…it just got more interesting! You may have heard of Virtualized Multiservice Data Center. Let me remind you. It is Cisco’s reference architecture for the Unified Data Center. The big news here is that we have just released the 3.0 design. We are introducing Cisco FabricPath into the Unified Data Center network in order to simplify and scale Cloud Ready Infrastructure designs for Private and Virtual Private Cloud deployments.
FabricPath simplifies and expands existing data center network design by removing the complexities of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and thus enabling more extensive, flexible, and scalable Layer 2 designs. This release marks the introduction of FabricPath-based designs into VMDC; further FabricPath-related VMDC releases will follow as Cisco develops and evolves its FabricPath offerings.

Welcome back to this series of blogs on Cisco Validated Designs (CVD) for Cloud -- In my first blog, I talked with Tom Nallen on the concept and benefits of CVD for Cloud -- The second interview was with Laszlo Bojtos on a new CVD for Cloud : Cloud Service Assurance - Today we will explore one specific but critical aspect of this work, which is the integration of Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud and Zenoss Cloud Service assurance.
So obviously orchestration systems can make better decisions with performance KPIs, and can also be used to provide precise and immediate monitoring for newly created or changed tenant services. For advanced workflow integration, all Zenoss Cloud Service Assurance (CSA) function and data is available using the documented JSON interface.
As mentioned , this CVD also features the integration of Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud and Zenoss CSA as an example of how Zenoss’ API can be used with Cisco’s cloud management software. It shows IA for Cloud provisioning VMs while sending information about the tenant and VM to Zenoss to enable the creation of a dependency map.
Zenoss CSA is designed to make it easy to integrate Cisco Cloud infrastructure and cloud management software, Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud, into an existing data center. Zenoss CSA will be integrated with client’s MoM system and configured for automated event forwarding.
This week has been a busy week for integrated infrastructure solutions. Of course, this isn’t a complete surprise around here—we have been preaching the gospel of simplified infrastructure and integrated solution stacks for some time; however, it is gratifying to see the concept continue to evolve and gain customer traction.
One of the developments we are particularly pleased with is the announcement today from EMC regarding their EMC VSPEX program. Cisco and EMC have a long history of partnering together for the benefit of our mutual customers, from storage solutions to the original Vblock to VSPEX. For those of you who missed the announcement, VSPEX is a reference design program to help guide customers as they build out their next generation of infrastructure. With our own success with the Cisco Validated Design program, we know this is an effective tool for customers as they look for trusted resources to guide infrastructure investment decisions.
We are a big fan of giving customers choice and giving them options and letting them decide on a path that best suits their needs. EMC’s VSPEX program is another great example of this. Its complimentary to our existing offerings in this space, so VSPEX gives customers yet another option and may appeal to customers that did not see the existing options as a good fit or might not have otherwise considered this approach.
