How much time do you spend at work?

For some the answer is too much! No matter how much time you spend, I’m willing to guess that it’s an important part of your week. Your work is part of who you are, where you go, and what you do.

That is why Cisco is proud to join the National Cybersecurity Alliance in its support of White House efforts to improve online security. Today’s announcement will educate and raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity topics at home, and at work.

Our businesses help create the jobs, innovation, and economy that will underpin our future. Our homes help us foster the relationships that are the foundation of our society. As technology pushes both forward, it is clear that cybersecurity in one, without the other, is impossible.

Every day, our home and work lives get closer together. Smartphones and online collaboration services, like Cisco WebEx and Spark, increasingly allow us to work and play from anywhere. And with this added flexibility comes a shared responsibility to protect yourself and your colleagues.

Cybersecurity techniques, like Two Factor Authentication, may look a little different in the business world. At home you will receive a code in an email or SMS to access an online service or social media account. These same techniques are used by our OpenDNS and Meraki services. But at work you might supplement your network password with a security token or a smartcard.

Multifactor authentication can also be directly integrated into work tools. Cisco’s collaboration products are a great example, as they support standards-based identity authentication and authorization exchange techniques. These allow our customers to quickly and securely integrate these services into their existing identity-proofing methods.

Because our home and work lives get closer every day, we support the President’s focus on increasing general cybersecurity awareness. Stop. Think. Connect. is the common thread, and describes the basic steps needed to ensure our entire digital selves can remain safe and secure.

Cisco Meraki Systems Manager Extends Enterprise Mobility Management to the Cloud

The industry is going beyond BYOD—it’s not just about simply connecting the device anymore: the mobile landscape has grown to include apps, devices and content, all of which require security and management. This is no easy task. Enterprise mobility management (EMM) is no longer a nice-to-have for our customers—it is a necessity. You need a mobile strategy.

We at Cisco have been steadily building out our mobility portfolio across infrastructure, policy and management over the past few years to provide our customers with what they need to get ahead of the mobile trend.

It has always been Cisco’s strategy to use open API’s with ISE to integrate with host of 3rd party EMM vendors, including Citrix, MobileIron, Airwatch and many more. We are now extending that flexibility to create a cloud-managed EMM offering with our Cisco Meraki solution.  The latest addition to the Cisco mobility portfolio, the Cisco Meraki Systems Manager Enterprise is an evolution of Cisco Meraki’s existing MDM cloud offer, and a natural extension of the Cisco Meraki network management solution (e.g. extending management of wireless access points to the management of devices connecting to the enterprise domain).

Cisco is committed to customer choice, and will continue to offer different options to the market, including ecosystem EMM partner solutions. The addition of the Cisco Meraki Systems Manager broadens that portfolio to strengthen our offering and empower our customers attain the mobility solution best suited for their specific requirements.

Powerful API’s Unlock Location-based Services

Location Based Services Enabling Smart Connected Cities

Smart Cities and the Internet of Everything have become commonly used terms over the past year or two. Both represent huge opportunities for both business growth and also for the delivery of better services and experiences for consumers and citizens alike. The size of this IoE opportunity has been widely predicted to exceed $14 Trillion[1] and within this just the Smart Cities component has been estimated to be worth $1,266 Billion[2] by 2019.  With this scale it is little wonder that it attracts a lot of interest and therefore a lot of very interesting innovation.

White Paper: RX-SOP 101

Just released yesterday: Cisco Wireless Release 8.0 includes a feature called Receiver Start of Packet (RX-SOP), which you can think of as putting earmuffs on the access point.  It’s not a new feature, as it has been used in stadiums and other high density deployments to great success for several years.  WLC 8.0 adds GUI configuration support with a low, medium, and high setting.

RX-SOP is meant for dense deployments, where channel reuse is a concern.  It’s a way to shrink cell sizes, but be careful: too much SOP and you can shrink your cells to the point where clients are no long able to connect.
