Cisco Live excited many delegates this year, and one of the highlights was the World of Solutions. “Only Cisco could pull this off” one delegate mentioned on Social media (#CLUS). There was an even stronger sense of confidence that Cisco was relevant to many industry verticals this year. The Industrial section of the ‘Cisco Campus’ showed off tons of new advances, and, for the first time, a small but important process industries (including Oil and Gas) booth opened up showing the services-based solutions Secure Ops and Collaborative Operations. Let’s talk about Collaborative Operations.
As you learn in the Video, Suresh Venkat speaks to the how Collaborative Operations goes beyond the ‘one-to-many’ collaborative solutions out there today, and provided a ‘many-to-many’ experience, that can be ‘always-on’ and people, data, and things can be brought into the session to create a more productive process (yes, that sounds a bit like the Internet of Everything – and it is an example!). Having that kind of capability can reduce downtime in, for example, the oil and gas industry, or or any industry that’s looking for a control room type environment to plan, monitor or react to situations and incidents or progress projects more rapidly.
The solution can bring in surveillance media, any endpoint audio including two-way radio, and integrate with mobile wireless collaboration devices like the Librestream camera he displayed. The ‘multiple-tile’ single-pane-of-glass approach demonstrated other integrations as well. Not only news feeds (useful for assessing situations from a news-media/PR perspective), but also feeds from SCADA data analysis systems like the BRS Labs panel Suresh shows in the video, and the Bit Stew analytics software visualization feed demonstrated live at the show.
As Suresh sums up “It’s all about getting the right people together at the right time with the right resources and make a decision in real time”.

June 7, 2015 was the day when Cisco Live was officially kicked off in San Diego. 25,000 attendees came together to open the next chapter in Cisco’s history. The convention center and surrounding area was buzzing with excitement, with conversations including and focused on security, service provider, app development and becoming digital, to name a few. An additional 80,000 joined Cisco Live online throughout the week.
John Chambers, Cisco CEO, emotionally delivered his 20th and final Cisco Live Welcome Keynote address where he shared Cisco’s vision one final time with our customers. The keynote featured a Read More »

I just returned from Cisco Live and the vibe was incredible. We had over 25,000 customers attend this event and additional partners and Cisco employees that pretty much took over San Diego. I had the pleasure of spending most of my time in the Connected Factory Experience Manufacturing vignette, as part of the industry stories in the World of Solutions part of the conference. This was truly the biggest business area in a key vertical for Cisco. During this time frame, I was able to speak with about 200 customers and the resounding feedback was that we are spot on with IoT, IoE and Business Outcomes. We had demonstrations in the World of Solutions that revolved around industrial use cases including security and analytics.
In customer meetings, manufacturers were looking for guidance on where to start with the Internet of Everything and Industrial IoT. In fact, John Chambers’ farewell keynote which focused on the messages of ‘Disrupt your industry or be disrupted’ resonated well with attendees. There was a strong, consistent theme of change, disruption, connecting your company and connecting your world as well as how Cisco can help. I also felt more of a sense of urgency for network and IT managers and professionals to be more engaged with the lines of business. Everyone understands that being more creative, disruptive and closer to the business positions IT to be integral to meeting industrial imperatives.
We have been working with quite a few customers to start their IoT journey. Despite IoT being a relatively recent trend, we have been working with a very innovative food manufacturing company in the Midwest who is embarking on a new facility and wanted to build the “factory of the future” or “digital Factory” and fully embraced Cisco to help them down this journey. While it is a bit easier with a green field or brand new factory, there are still issues with identification and starting pilot projects. Read More »

25,000+ IT geeks have left the building – the San Diego Convention Center, specifically – now that Cisco Live U.S. wrapped last Friday. It was a huge success and we have the data to prove it, thanks to Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX). Some interesting and fun stats:
- You love beer. Happy Hour was, unsurprisingly, very popular, responsible for big spikes in attendance at the World of Solutions (WoS) at the end of each day.
- You like free swag (…and demos). Attendees, booth staffers aside, spent 2.5 hours on average in the WoS, and 1 hour 16 minutes on average at the Cisco booths in WoS. If you picked up lightsabers at the Cisco Mobility and Enterprise Networks booths, hopefully airport TSA didn’t confiscate them from you!
- You bid adieu to John Chambers. The crowds came to see his final Cisco Live keynote as our CEO, illustrated by a massive spike with over 5,000 unique devices.
- You use more than one mobile device. There were 29,000+ unique visitors (devices) at CLUS, not including staffers, and specifically The Hub saw the most action.
For many more Cisco Live insights by my colleague Evyatar Ram, Product Manager on the CMX team, check out his blog here.
Cisco Mobility wasn’t just gathering analytics in the background at Cisco Live, it was also front and center at the Innovation Talk: Future of the Network. Rob Soderbery, Cisco SVP of Enterprise Products & Solutions, shared how our Mobility solutions create new ways of digitizing business with applications in mind, beyond the wireless network. He showed a live demo of CMX location innovations such as hyperlocation – a Best of Interop Las Vegas and Tokyo winner — and live analytics. In addition, he demonstrated how easy it is for customers to deliver captured portals with pre-set templates that are easy to update and integrate in other data sources such as CRM, powered by Enterprise Mobility Services Platform (EMSP). The talk wrapped with a raffle drawing of two Apple iWatches. Were you one of the lucky winners?
As I left Cisco Live after the show wrapped up, Elvis walked by, sporting a spangly jumpsuit and slinging his guitar. Really, I can’t make this stuff up. I suppose that’s a sparkly reminder that I’ll be seeing him, and you, in Vegas for Cisco Live U.S. next year.
