Let’s step into the “way back machine.” It’s 1985, and my friends and I are waiting in a long line to purchase U2 concert tickets. We are beyond excited; they are coming to the Worcester Centrum and we are determined to score tickets for this momentous event! It’s a very, very long line at the local record store, the only one in town that sells concert tickets.
Remember those days? Not many choices and lots of in-person interactions that were time-consuming, but we didn’t know the difference back then.
It took a long time to make it to the front of that line, and you never knew if the tickets were going to be sold out before you got there. It was a wait-and-see game with very few choices.
In 2015, most of us couldn’t imagine dealing with that. We have grown accustomed to having many choices on how and when we communicate. This has greatly changed the research and purchase process, which in turn has driven the need for the highly-responsive customer care companies are starting to provide.

In addition, Assemblage’s experience integrating with third party cloud ecosystem applications like Box and Google shows a close alignment to Cisco’s collaboration strategy and our commitment to simplicity and interoperability.

Wow! Last week was a big week for Cloud news. Whilst Amazon Web Service, Microsoft and Google started a price war or ‘race to the bottom’ for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services, Cisco came out with a potentially industry-shaping announcement around Cloud Services.
On March 24th Cisco announced plans to build the world’s largest global Intercloud together with a set of partners to create a network of clouds. This is not a trivial investment, Cisco expects to invest more than $1 billion in its cloud business over the next two years. This ‘Intercloud’ will feature APIs for rapid application development and will deliver a new enterprise-class portfolio of cloud IT services.
Cisco’s overall strategy for the cloud is based on the premise that there will be a “world of many clouds.” My colleague Fabio Gori wrote a great blog describing how Intercloud is the critical enabler to capture the immense value of the Internet of Everything (IoE). In this post, Fabio provides a clear summary of how we see Intercloud impacting the next phase of cloud computing, the IoE and ultimately how we all collaborate.

Why should I move to the cloud for collaboration? This is the question I get asked most often, and it’s easy to understand why; there is a lot of noise in the market around Cloud and Collaboration. Adoption has been pretty rapid by both IT and business units–so it’s no wonder interest in Cloud Collaboration is so high. Looking across all the current research that I see, about half of respondents currently use – or plan to use – the cloud for collaboration services. So why Cloud? Well, often it helps solve a series of problems, provides a more integrated solution and better connects people. Often the biggest reason is that it provides what’s needed to run the business.
