Cisco Leads the Gartner Wired and Wireless LAN Infrastructure Magic Quadrant Again!

Gartner has released their 2013 Wired and Wireless LAN Infrastructure Magic Quadrant.  For the 2nd time in a row, Cisco is recognized as a leader in this highly anticipated publication.

Here is the 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant for the Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure (Authors: Tim Zimmerman and Mark Fabbi; Published 3rd September 2013).

There are two primary criteria for the Gartner MQ — (a) the Completeness of Vision (b) Ability to Execute.

From a vision perspective, Cisco unveiled its vision of Unified Access – One Policy, One Management, One Network — more than a year back (last June, to be precise). This vision was the first step in helping our customers drive business innovations and achieving IT simplicity while addressing the rapid growth of BYOD and Mobility in their organizations.

We were also ahead of the times by having a vision for the network to be a strategic asset (and not a cost center) for our customers. And the way to make this happen was to leverage the network intelligence to drive new customer experiences and revenue opportunities. That’s where our vision of Connected Mobile Experiences (CMX) came about. The idea behind CMX was to enable organizations to improve customer loyalty and increase revenue by delivering context-aware mobile information that matches their customers’ real-time needs and preferences. A retail store, for example, can use the CMX solution to enhance mobile shopping experience, increase loyalty app usage, create targeted personalized marketing and context-rich notifications, and use on-premise visibility to understand and adapt to customer behavior. Its no surprise that the majority of our customers have jointly embraced this Cisco vision and a lot of our competitors are now trying to follow suit.

Cisco Network Convergence System: The Foundation for the New Internet

Cisco innovations have driven the Internet far beyond its original purpose to a network that can handle voice, video, cloud, and mobile services. Now we’re seeing a new Internet on the horizon – the Internet of Everything. In fact by 2017 IP traffic is estimated to grow to 1.4 zettabytes as more programmable devices such as smart phones, tablets, and sensor or machine-driven traffic rapidly come on line. Consider this – just this week there will be more than 26 million new programmable devices added to the Internet or twice the entire population of Mumbai.

This means that managing bandwidth growth isn’t enough anymore. The network must evolve to a multidimensional network, scaling to effectively manage machine-driven events, support ultra, high-definition video applications, and enable new custom-made services. It must also scale up and down with elasticity and be highly programmable, while integrating seamlessly with today’s network, data centers, and applications.

Calling all Extroverts! Why You’re Wired to Collaborate

I once had the amazing opportunity to interview Jack Welch at a Cisco event.  For 60 minutes we sat side-by-side on stage, within a few inches of each other, but there was no doubt he was the only person in the room in the eyes of the audience.   While his wisdom had the audience captivated, it was his extroverted personality that made the discussion truly fun and engaging.  As an extrovert, Welch fed off the audience’s rousing responses to his thoughts – and his occasional finger-wagging at the leaders in the audience about the future of competition.  The audience loved it.

Sometimes people mistake the behavior of extroverts as “showing off” or trying to command too much attention.  What Jack Welch taught me about extroverts is that their energy rises when they’re connecting with people; extroverts get excited when other people are excited to be with them.  As collaborators, extroverts can play a crucial role in group dynamics.  Action-oriented by nature, extroverts can compel a group forward – especially at key points of agreement or action.
