Here at Cisco, it’s easy to understand the importance of technology. We can connect with people around the world, do our jobs more efficiently, and create innovative solutions that have never been seen before. Technology also gives us the ability to change the world in unprecedented ways. The best part is that we know there are incredible people out in our community making a difference and embodying Cisco’s mission to change the way people learn, work, live, and play.
At Cisco Live in San Diego this June, we want to highlight the impact people are having in their communities. Our theme for the Cisco Empowered Women’s Network (CEWN) event is to ReDEFINE Tomorrow, Today. One facet of this campaign is to showcase the ways Read More »

Just like private businesses, public sector organizations are taking advantage of today’s “boundless” infrastructures. They also face the same challenging reality when implementing those networks: a threat to data security. For public sector, the stakes are especially high. The proliferation of hackers, inevitable human errors, bring-your-own-device initiatives and the ever-broadening need to share information weigh heavily on government and education organizations, and consume substantial resources.
Against this backdrop, it’s more important than ever to be constantly discussing and innovating cybersecurity measures to keep networks safe. Cisco is not only an industry leader when it comes to providing cybersecurity solutions and services for the public sector, but it is also helping drive conversations with government and technology leaders around the country. In fact, Cisco will be attending a number of cyber-focused events over the next few months:
Cisco is a proud sponsor of the RSA Conference, an event that helps drive the information security agenda worldwide and plays an integral role in keeping security professionals across the globe connected and educated. Speakers will discuss everything from cloud computing to quantitative security, and include Secretary Jeh Johnson, Department of Homeland Security.
This year’s CyberTexas conference will explore the intersection of cyber security and the ‘Internet of Things’. Cisco’s Kurt Harris, Senior Systems Engineering Manager, is presenting on This session will explore the importance of securing the IoT and how these security challenges impact the enormous opportunity presented by the IoE for public sector in the future. Cisco is also sponsoring the “Securing the Internet of Things” track.
The 2015 Synergy Forum brings together government and industry practitioners driving our collective technology futures to examine the emerging fusion of physical and digital worlds. Gary Neal Akers, senior vice president of Advanced Security Initiatives, Cisco, will take part in a panel on security and the Internet of Things.
Linked by a commitment to cybersecurity, government agencies, intelligence personnel and industry leaders will gather at the 2015 Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium to discuss successful strategies for improving security. In addition to exhibiting its cybersecurity solutions at the symposium, Cisco’s Kapil Bakshi, Distinguished Architect, will be speaking on a panel titled “Secure, Operate and Defend in the Commercial Sector – How Do We Maintain and Increase Cyber Security While Providing Innovation in IT?”
Digital Government Institute’s 8th annual Cyber Security Conference will explore today’s cyber threats and offer an opportunity for those supporting government security initiatives to collaborate on how to detect, protect, and respond to these challenges. Peter Romness, cybersecurity solutions lead, U.S. Public Sector, will be presenting during the show. Cisco is a Gold Sponsor of the DGI Cyber Security Conference.
The NSA Information Assurance Symposium is a biannual forum hosted by the National Security Agency that brings, policy, governance, technology, hands-on training and networking opportunities to attendees from across government, industry and academia. Cisco will be exhibiting at the symposium.
That is quite the cyber roadshow! Also, don’t miss our webinar with GovLoop on April 30th for a discussion on how to stay secure and connected in the age of the Internet of Things. And of course, we will undoubtedly be talking cybersecurity during Cisco Live in San Diego, June 7-11th. If you are attending any of these events, please make sure to stop by and say hello!

One of my favorite events on the calendar is always Cisco Live in Melbourne, and after the record-breaking event last year, I went in with high expectations. From the moment Chuck Robbins stepped onstage for the opening keynote I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. Read More »

The convergence of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) is becoming more important now than ever – and that sentiment was heard loud and clear at last week’s complementary Cisco Live Melbourne and Rockwell Automation ConnectED events. Held for the first time under the same roof, the two events provided a unique opportunity for end users to learn how to accelerate industrial business performance in a joint experience.
Attendees to both events alike enjoyed seeing examples of industrial technology in action such as the Connected Vineyard demo, which I had the pleasure of demonstrating to customers in the Cisco Live World of Solutions.
In the demo, we discussed how to add business value on top of sensor information. For example, the images below show sensor information in an easy-to-read dashboard that can help us troubleshoot potential issues before they affect the bottom line.

The portals that your employees and guests use for enterprise mobility and guest access are a reflection of your company brand and putting your best foot forward means customizing them for a better user experience. The challenge is that customization often requires someone with knowledge of HTML, Java, CSS, and even jQuery skills – in addition to having design skills to properly feature content.
While Cisco offers brand new, out-of-the-box customization with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) 1.3, we wanted to give customers the ability to do much more – so we’ve introduced a new, web-based tool called the ISE Portal Builder that we demo’d at Cisco Live! in Milan, Italy. The show attendees who came by our booth and attended private showings were really amazed by the capabilities offered and they recognized that the ISE Portal Builder enabled almost anyone to build a beautiful guest, BYOD, profile, sponsor, or MDM portal in minutes at no additional cost.
While we already improved the ISE 1.3 ability to quickly model workflows and do basic customization, utilizing the ISE Portal Builder designers can choose from a suite of templates, or create their own using a drag-and-drop page creator. In addition, we’ve made it easy to import, layout, and manage images and other displayed files. You can add advertisements and banners in different places, and even add them into a rotating carousel. You can select up to 17 languages and even create a custom portal for each!
To access the tool go to http://isepb.cisco.com and register using your CCO ID.
