Medianet at Cisco Live London 2013

A year ago, I met our customers and partners at Cisco Live London and demonstrated the power of medianet for Cisco TelePresence for my first time.  It was a time of a few other firsts including my first time in London, first time eating fish and chips, and first time being stranded in an airport.

Continuing on this theme of “firsts,” we have some exciting new things to showcase at Cisco Live London this year! For the first time, we will be showing the value of medianet end-to-end with demos in both our Enterprise Network and Collaboration areas. We have expanded our portfolio of medianet-enabled products to include Cisco Jabber, Cisco VXI, and more Cisco TelePresence endpoints. Stop by the World of Solutions and experience the quality difference between non- and medianet-enabled endpoints. And what’s new with our core networking? You can learn how we made our networks much smarter with abilities to recognize third party endpoints and applications.

Cutting Through The Techno-Babble

The Cisco Aironet 3600 features the Highest 802.11n performance with Cisco CleanAir™ technology and is the industry’s first 4 x 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) access point with three spatial streams. It has add-on options for 802.11ac or Wireless Security and Spectrum Intelligence (WSSI) Module and standard 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) .

All right. Who is still awake? Show of hands?

One of the challenging things about working for a technology company is avoiding getting lost in the details.  There’s a time and place for technical specifications, to be sure.  But I believe that most people really want to know “How will all this technology make my life better?”.

Medianet at Cisco Live London

February 10, 2012 at 12:53 pm PST

Last week, Cisco hosted another fantastic Cisco Live Europe in London. Over 6000 people were in attendance during the event this time around and this was very visible in the crowds in the world of solutions as well as the class rooms.

Also very visible, was the growing impact of video not only in the lives of the people attending but also the networks that they are building and caring for. I talked to a very passionate video conferencing administrator that proudly described how video conferencing technology has been saving lives on offshore oil platforms by connecting nurses with medical specialists. The network quality and transmission is critical in these cases and the case for video (for a variety of applications) is driving a re-evaluation of how the network could be designed and optimized. The next day I talked with a network operator that was struggling to deliver on a mandate from management to provide video conferencing and town hall type meetings to an already stretched thin network.

Cisco Live London – IPv6 is Hotter Than Ever

February 6, 2012 at 4:06 pm PST

I am back from a week at Cisco Live London where I presented to a packed room on Enterprise IPv6 Deployment. I added much more emphasis on Internet Edge design this time around and it was VERY well received. The comments were very positive, as were the questions in the room, regarding the Internet Edge as the primary starting point for the majority of the attendees. You can check out details on my IPv6 Internet Edge content at my previous blog post.

In addition to IPv6 in the Internet Edge, IPv6 security was a hot topic as usual.  Excellent Cisco speakers such as Eric Vyncke provided attendees at Cisco Live very detailed guidance on securing their networks when using IPv6. One thing that we have come to realize, not just for security, but also for all areas of IPv6 deployment, is that we cannot assume too much regarding the knowledge level of people attending our sessions.

The 3 Cs at Cisco Live London 2012

February 1, 2012 at 12:30 am PST

Cisco Live London 2012 is underway this week. I’m sure that technical learning and having fun are high on your to-do list. Perhaps you’re also anxious to know what new products and technologies Cisco will announce.

I talked to several customers during the last several weeks. They all wanted to know what Cisco is doing further to help them deal with the wave of cloud computing, video, and mobility. In my previous post From San Jose to London I summarized these questions:
