Cisco and Red Hat at the Center of IT Transformation

summit_logo_170The open hybrid-cloud and big data are at the center of the IT transformation that will enable every business, country, and city to become a digital and technology organization. Cisco and Red Hat share a common vision for the future of IT. That’s why Cisco is going big at the Red Hat Summit, which kicks off June 23rd in Boston. It’s going to be a great week of conversations with IT professionals who are harnessing open source innovation across their businesses and organizations to deliver new models of IT.

I’m especially looking forward to the opening general session with Red Hat CEO, Jim Whitehurst and Satinder Sethi Cisco VP of Data Center and Cloud Solutions. I’m sure these two industry luminaries will have keen insights into the market transitions and IT innovations that put the data center at the heart of digital transformation.

Of course, the Cisco team will be busy with an action packed agenda of sessions and demos. Plan to make the Cisco booth your hub in the Red Hat Summit Partner Pavilion. Our mini-theater will feature non-stop tech talks that span OpenStack, Group Based Policy, Big Data and Developer Programs. Every visitor to the Cisco booth will leave with an ultra-cool Cisco hat.

Summary: Cisco is bringing together networking and programming

With the announcements on NX-OS APIs, Application Centric infrastructure APIs, python scripting support, SDN, open source projects OpenStack, OpenDaylight, and Puppet, I have opened an account at codecademy.com and will start with Python and Java. I see many late nights in my future. This stubborn old networker is finally onboard.

Cisco is bringing together networking and programming

Well Cisco has done it.

I have worked in IT since 1995 and never learned programming. Sure, I can do a little HTML, and years ago, I learned just enough Perl to configure MRTG, but I have never written a program. The good old CLI has kept me very busy and brought home the bacon.

With the announcements on NX-OS APIs, Application Centric infrastructure APIs, python scripting support, SDN, and open source projects OpenStack, OpenDaylight, and Puppet, I cannot hold back anymore.

Therefore, I have opened an account at codecademy.com. I will start with Python and Java. I see many late nights in my future.

I have thought about learning code, but I could never think of an app I wanted to write. Now Cisco is bringing together networking and programming. Cisco is not only making APIs available, Cisco is contributing code to the open source community. In fact, Cisco has created a Data Center repository, a Nexus 9000 community, and a general Cisco Systems repository on GitHub.

DevNet

Cisco has recently overhauled the developer program and its content. The new DevNet website is filled with developer information on products such as AVC, Collaboration, UCS, CTI, Energywise, FlexPod, UCS Microsoft Manager, Jabber, onePK, XNC, Telepresence.

Cisco is bringing the networking and programing worlds together and this stubborn old networker is finally onboard.

Happy Coding!

First Set of Partners to Pass Interoperability and Verification Testing for the Cisco Medianet MSP CDN Program!

There has been a lot of good progress after the Plugfest launch for Media Services Proxy (MSP) at the ASIS (for IP Surveillance) in September 2012. The Plugfest was very well received by many IP Surveillance camera vendors, and the feedback has been very positive on why and how MSP is very useful for IP surveillance deployments. We have continued to engage with quite a few partners we met at the Plugfest to make sure we build on this partnership.

I am delighted to announce that the following partners have successfully completed the Interoperability Verification Testing (IVT) as part of the MSP CDN program:

  • Flir Systems (Model: F-316)
  • Hikvision (Model: ds-2cd754)
  • Panasonic (Model: wv-sp509)
  • Schneider Electric – Pelco Cameras by Schneider Electric (Model: IXE10LW)

These are our first set of partners to have been validated against Cisco Medianet’s MSP capabilities, which makes deployment and operations of these IP surveillance cameras simpler and effective on a Cisco network. We are working with the other partners and hope to provide updates very soon!
