According to SiriusDecisions, 70% of the buying process is now completed before the prospect is ready to speak with a sales representative. This means that marketing is moving further into the buying process as the prospective buyer uses new – and decidedly online – sources of information instead of a relationship with a sales professional to guide their purchasing decisions.
As B2B marketers we know it’s important to leverage social media as part of our marketing efforts and most of us are. However, it’s more important to pay attention to how our target buyers’ online behavior is changing overtime. How do IT professionals leverage social networks? What sources of content influence their purchase decisions? Do IT professionals have a preference for certain formats of content over others?
Answers to these questions can be found in the 2011 Toolbox.com/PJA Social Media Index. Read More »

How was your week? Well, here at Cisco we had another exciting week filled with interesting technology stories and news. Here’s what happened…
1.) Mobile Technology for Smarter Cars
Today, the only types of collision avoidance systems in cars are expensive radar- and camera based systems, which are few and far between. However, if the U.S. Department of Transportation had its way much cheaper warning systems would be installed in all new cars before the end of the decade. The key is replacing expensive sensors with cheap and ubiquitous global positioning system (GPS) and Wi-Fi wireless technology.
2.) Cloud Providers Combine to Boost Asian Market
Some of the biggest players in technology have come together to form a group that aims to boost the use of cloud architectures in Asia, where adoption lags behind the U.S. and Europe. Eleven companies, including Cisco, primarily from the U.S. and western Europe, announced they were forming the Asia Cloud Computing Association to address regional issues and challenges to the adoption of cloud computing in Asia.
3.) Visualizing Global Mobile Traffic Growth
Check out some insights from Cisco’s Visual Networking Index. According to the VNI, global mobile data traffic will increase 26-fold between 2010 and 2015 and there will be nearly one mobile device per capita by 2015. How do you see mobile evolving in the next five years?
4.) Cisco Makes Video Easier to Create, Consume, Search and Share Across the Enterprise
This week Cisco unveiled a host of new offerings designed to make it easy for anyone to be a video producer. Customers now have new ways to create and consume video across the enterprise. With the new Cisco offerings, they can:
- Record and share videos and content on the fly from Cisco TelePresence or other video endpoints.
- Enjoy exceptional search capabilities within videos themselves. Instead of wasting time scrolling through hours of video to find the right clip, with a few clicks of a mouse, users can now simply advance to the right spot.
5.) Cisco Names Gary Moore Chief Operating Officer
This week Cisco announced that Executive Vice President Gary Moore has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO), a new position within Cisco.
“Gary is a seasoned and trusted leader who consistently delivers results. He is uniquely qualified to drive strategic prioritization and accountability within Cisco, with a laser-focus on operational excellence,” said John Chambers, chairman and CEO, Cisco.
Cisco also has a TON of things happening next week. Here’s what to look out for…
- The Internet it out of addresses? Check out this feature article next week about how careful planning and slow transition will minimize the impact of the transition to the IPv6 addressing system.
- With the Academy Awards this weekend check out how the Oscars are taking TV and social media to a whole new level!
- Partner Summit 2011 is happening next week in New Orleans! Keep up to date with news from the event.

You’ve heard us say it before, there’s nothing small about the small business initiative at Cisco. Rick Moran, our WW vice president of SB Solutions Marketing, has this week been discussing our latest news with ‘connect’ and ‘secure’ products focused on Small Business with analysts from across the globe.
The launch this week is particularly exciting as it includes a expansion of the “built for small” portfolio with a range of Ethernet switches, a business-class network security Firewall as well as a backup Service for storage products and the financing offers and options for small business to go with them.
It’s an exciting time for small businesses to evaluate their needs – there are lots of challenges for growing businesses to overcome, but lots of solutions to those needs as well. And yes… cost is a major component of successfully running IT, that’s why Cisco Capital is currently offering competitive financing for small business customers so they can get the technology they need to stay competitive and profitable. Three-year, 3 percent financing in the U.S and zero-percent financing in Europe and Canada is now available to small business customers.
Of course, we’re always listening to our customers, acting on their feedback and developing new solutions that can help drive their business performance to the next level. Analyst feedback is a great prism through which we can look at the challenges, and opportunities for small businesses, and so discussions with analysts really build on this process and are an invaluable part of helping us to push ourselves and our products as far as possible.
Our latest discussions re-iterated many of the key things that matter to a small business – good value, ease of use and reliability. Small business remain hungry for advice on how they can innovate, while keeping things simple. For example, we recently ran a Talk2 Cisco webinar session on how small businesses can gain an edge on the competition. Ian Pennell, senior vice president for Cisco’s small business technology group and co-lead of Cisco’s small business council, and Andrew Sage, vice president, worldwide small business sales, enjoyed discussing many of these issues and answering small businesses’ questions on these areas. To paraphrase one of the analysts we were speaking with, ‘small can still be complex we still want quick and easy to use solutions’. Amen to that.
