Not to be missed at Cisco Live: Medianet Network and Application Management Solutions!

June 19, 2013 at 11:49 am PST

I am just so excited for Cisco Live US next week! As we give the final touches to our demos and presentations, I am already thinking about what to pack. (Yes, you read my mind – which shoes should I bring? How many pairs do I need? Oh, and how will my hair behave with the humidity? :-))

Joking aside, one thing I know for sure:  it will be hot in Orlando! Outside the conference center as well as in the booths of the medianet CDN partners!

As you visit the World of Solutions, please make sure to stop at the booths of our CDN partners. They will be showcasing medianet solutions and you can see first-hand how their great tools bring to life the medianet capabilities to help your organization with deployment, management, troubleshooting and improving quality of experience of video and collaboration deployments.

  • ActionPacked! Networks booth #201:
    • Besides all the great features in their product LiveAction 3.0, they will be showing their support of Cisco MSI API which allows the identification and monitoring for MSI capable endpoints. Read More »

Cisco MSP CDN Program Update: Building on the Success of Plugfest at ISC West!

Hello IP Surveillance Enthusiasts,

ISC West was held at Las Vegas between Apr 10-12, and we continued the engagements with our partners on Cisco Medianet Plugfest here. Plugfest was launched at ASIS Philadelphia in September 2012, and from then till now, we have been actively working on getting partners on-boarded into Cisco’s MSP Cisco Developer Network (CDN) program, evaluating the test results gathered during ASIS and making recommendations to partners on improving interoperability with the network.

At ISC West, we had the wonderful opportunity to touch base with many of our partners already in CDN, and the ones we are closely working with on the process.

These were the sessions/interactions we had on Plugfest at ISC West -

Plugfest Updates (MSP CDN)

We came together at ASIS, September 2012 in Philadelphia and made good progress with Plugfest – The Media Services Proxy (MSP) CDN program for validating the interoperability of your IP Surveillance cameras with the Cisco Network. We shared with you the capabilities of MSP, the value it can bring for you, and had a live lab where we tested (plug-and-play) your cameras with the MSP software at the event.

Since then we have been working with many of you on getting you on boarded with the CDN program so you could be our official partners, and have also been working on analyzing the lab data we gathered at ASIS.

We will be at ISC West 2013 to share our progress and next steps with you. I take great pleasure in inviting you to our sessions at ISC West –

Cisco Customers can now manage energy consumption of IP connected devices at no charge with Cisco EnergyWise Fast-Start $0 SKUs

Be it tax-credits/subsidies in different parts of the world or the recent news of California setting up a carbon trading exchange – no week passes by without the mention of “the importance of saving energy” or “reducing greenhouse gases”. Yet, with the explosion of technology and IP-connected devices; IT consumes over 25% of energy in a commercial building or office.

So why am I writing about this in a Cisco blog and what has this got to do with networking?

Cisco Pilot Proves the Value of CDN Federations

By Marc Latouche, Manager, Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) Service Provider

As more and more video traffic streams across service provider (SP) networks, many SPs are deploying content delivery networks (CDNs). In addition to supporting their own operations, these CDNs provide a viable commercial alternative — or complement — to pure-play CDNs (such as Level 3 and Limelight), and enable SPs to earn extra income from the content flowing over their network.

The Cisco® Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) believes that CDN federations will provide an even farther-reaching solution. Cisco began to develop the concept of CDN federations in 2011, envisioning them as multi-footprint, open CDN capabilities built and shared by autonomous members. With CDN federations, SPs can interconnect — and leverage — one another’s CDN resources, ultimately benefiting all players in the value chain. Consumers gain in quality of service, SPs benefit through increased revenue potential, and content providers benefit in the assurance that their product will be distributed with guaranteed service and to a wider, potentially global audience.
