Access to reliable and secure Wi-Fi is no longer a luxury in the retail world; it’s a necessity. Whether you’re looking to add a network or simply upgrade an older one, Cisco’s Mobility Express Solution makes it easy to provide customers with Wi-Fi, add security cameras and even introduce wireless POS terminals to expedite checkouts. And when you add Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences to your deployment, you can capture presence analytics and engage with your customer through the wi-fi network.
Overloaded networks stop shopping, security and inventory checks in their tracks.

So here we are, back in Amsterdam for IBC 2015. The first busy day was concluded with the prestigious CSI awards, a ceremony which was launched by the Cable and Satellite International team back in 2003. The idea behind it is to recognise and reward industry top technologies in cable, satellite, IPTV, telco , OTT and mobile TV. The program has now grown to 19 categories and this year, Cisco was proud to be short listed for 4 of these: Read More »

I was reading the latest ACG Research report on Mobile IP Infrastructure and reflecting how the importance of the IP Packet Core has evolved, and how the technology leaders in this area have also evolved.
Back in the “3G era” the Packet Core sat alongside the Voice Core, and was considered an adjunct to the Radio Access Network. The traditional RAN vendors would often bundle the core as part their end-to-end contract. Since initial data services where Mobile Broadband, and monetisation was just based on volume, 3G Packet Cores were all about “feeds and speeds”.
With 4G/LTE the all-IP nature makes the Packet Core the heart of Read More »

This week at IBC we are happy to announce that we’ve reached 300 million active VideoGuard Everywhere client devices. Think about that for a moment!
How did we get this far? Not long ago, service provider video distribution was simple: Service providers distributed the content they purchased from video programmers, over the networks they managed, to set-top boxes they also managed. (Ah, life was so much simpler then!)
And while this simplicity limited our viewing experience to a big screen at home, it was reasonably sufficient — because at the time, the big screen was pretty much the only screen we watched. Such end-to-end, managed environments simplified operations, and made it easier to protect the video service from piracy.
Then came the emergence of broadband connectivity, and the Read More »

The ubiquitous nature of Internet of Everything (IoE) is driving a digital transformation in many industries and businesses. This digital disruption has already begun and it’s driving advanced cloud access and network performance requirements for a wide range of devices and machine-to machine (M2M) connections. Faster broadband speeds and lower latencies as well as wider network access are essential enablers for the future of IoE that many envision. The growing number of cloud applications that are being developed for a wide variety of business and consumer uses are dramatically changing the demands and expectations of public and private network services.
Consider the connected car. Integrated “infotainment” is a growing feature trend that is being implemented in many types of vehicles. This type of mobile connectivity will create even more reliance on the Internet to bring Read More »
