WebEx Wins Green IT Summit Award!

May 29, 2012 at 8:17 am PST

Cisco WebEx won the Green IT Summit 2012 award for the best telework and teleconferencing solution.

WebEx video conferencing is green IT because it reduces travel for people who typically attend meetings in person. Using WebEx allows virtual teams to easily collaborate with distant colleagues and clients. Of course it also saves time and money.

The Green IT Summit is a yearly event held in the Washington D.C. area around Earth Day.

Jim Lynch, from TechSoup, explains more about the awards: Read More »

Cisco Support Community: Winner of the 2011 Forrester Groundswell Award for Supporting Social Media

February 9, 2012 at 2:19 pm PST

Many companies today are jumping on the bandwagon to add custom social media accounts to their list of web properties. The Cisco Support Community team is one such group, but this team has done so particularly well and seen great successes with their endeavors.

In early 2010, they launched and revamped their social initiatives in hopes of staying connected with customers and extending the community beyond Cisco’s immediate reach. Just over a year afterward, the team was recognized as the winner of the 2011 Forrester Groundswell Award in the B2B Supporting Category. What’s more, Cisco estimates that the community-based support on Facebook and Twitter is saving the company more than $400K annually! Not everybody rises to fame with the fruits of their social media labor. I was curious to find out what the team did that led to such positive results, so I chatted with Pratibha Gupta and Mohan Rao, leads of the social media branch of the Support Community team.

2011 – Not the End, Not the Beginning of the End, but the End of the Beginning….

December 31, 2011 at 7:24 pm PST

One of Winston Churchill’s most memorable war speeches came on 10 November 1942 at the Lord Mayor’s Luncheon at Mansion House in London, in response to the Allied victory at the Second Battle of El Alamein. Churchill stated:

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

My father was always proud that he had taken part in the first battle that changed the tide of World War II. He was 19 years old at time and had been on active duty for only 10 days! He was particularly proud that Churchill had said: “Before Alamein we never had a victory. After Alamein, we never had a defeat.”

Well, the point of all this is to blow the trumpet for this Manufacturing Industry Blog from Cisco and your group of Industry Gurus. With only a few bloggers and blogging for only a year or so, we managed to achieve several notable awards:

  • I, Peter Granger, was proud to accept the “Best Newcomer Blog Award” on behalf of the team – we managed to get folks to stay on our blog longer than any other Cisco blog! A real achievement for the team!
  • Andrew Lach, our Blog Admin Manager managed to top the charts of prolific bloggers two months in a row, and became a featured blogger several times.
  • The rest of the team, Mark Wylie, Kevin Davenport and Paul Didier, continued to impress the Industry with their thought Leadership.

So, what of the future? Read More »

December 28, 2011 at 9:00 am PST

I wanted to dedicate this blog post to sharing the best practices from three of Cisco’s social programs which were recently awarded the 2011 Event Marketer Technology Awards. Cisco Live and the Cisco Event Mobile Application were honored for their excellence with events integration and custom app creation, respectively, while the Global Sales Experience (GSX) campaign was noted for delivering content that was both educational and entertaining. In introducing you to the strategies implemented by each of these award-winning hybrid programs, I hope you find them interesting and useful to apply to your own social campaign, event, or mobile app!

Well That’s Awesome: WebEx Named Top App in Apple Rewind 2011 for Business

Thank you Tommy Tian (@tommytian) for the Tweet and the good news! He spotted the honor and tweeted the photo below! We are thrilled to have made the list and it’s a great way to wrap-up the year. If you don’t already have the free WebEx Mobile app, this page provides links to the different versions.

That’s right; it’s absolutely free and allows you to join meetings from your device as long as you can get to the Internet. You’ll need a WebEx account to host a mobile meeting, but you can get one for as low as $19.99/month.
