Cisco Updates Its Next-Generation Firewall Management Application – Prime Security Manager

For those who are not familiar with the Cisco Prime Security Manager, it is a management application that was introduced in 2012 to manage Cisco ASA 5500-X Series Next-Generation Firewalls. It is built on Web 2.0 technologies and supports both single-device and multi-device manager form factors to help manage various features such as Application Visibility and Control (AVC), along with web security in a simple, light-weight, and scalable manner. The AVC capability helps to block around 1200+ applications and 150,000+ micro-applications, in addition to specific users, behaviors, micro-applications, and devices. The web security service also provides URL filtering and Web reputation features to proactively restrict web application usage based on reputation of the site. Through Cisco Security Intelligence Operations (SIO), these services provide a comprehensive view of the local and global threat intelligence landscape. This is eventually translated to actionable items such as security polices and information feeds that protect your business from near real-time zero-day threats. Read More »

Ready for a virtual router in the cloud? Cisco CSR1000V joins AWS

Cisco WebinarsThe 2013 Cisco IT Impact Survey found that 40% of IT professionals stated that moving their applications to the Cloud as one of their key IT challenges over the past 12 months with 50% of respondents highlighting security data protection and guaranteeing the reliability of applications in the cloud (SLA’s) as the main reasons.

Talking with our Enterprise customers, it is clear that there has been significant gap in the solutions that provide enterprise-class secure connectivity from users and branches to public cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS). As a result, IT departments have not been able to easily connect their private networks into AWS with the consistent security and policy management that they are familiar with – that is until now.

To help customers combat these challenges and accelerate their migration to cloud, I am proud to announce the availability of Cisco’s very first virtualized product now available on Amazon Web Services (AWS): Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V. Read More »

Is Your WAN Ready For iOS7? 2 Steps You Should Take To Identify and Tame Applications

If you have an iPhone or you are due for a mobile phone refresh, you would have tuned into Apple’s announcement on the new iPhones as well as the new OS, iOS7.  I’ve had my iPhone4 for more than 3 years now so it definitely is decision time.

While we, as the phones’ users, are contemplating a new phone or upgraded OS, what does our other persona, the manager, director, or CIO in charge of our companies’ IT and network, need to consider?  Will this impact me? Especially with BYOD policies can we bring both our iPhone and iPad -- new or just upgraded -- and connect them to the company wireless network?   The answer is a resounding YES.

CiscoLive Preview and Enterprise Networks Weekly Overview

If you are going to Cisco Live Orlando next week, you probably have your schedule planned out.  However, I’m going to do something a little silly and urge you to attend Rob Soderbery’s Monday afternoon keynote.  This is a silly recommendation as most people are either keynote people or they aren’t.  You’ve already made up your mind on whether you go to these things.  However, we have something special planned for it that will only happen at this keynote.  And that’s actually all I can say about it.  That, and the general program listing:

Your Enterprise Network: Getting You Where You Want to Go

Is your enterprise network ready to take you where you want to go? Will it support the business applications that you are being asked to support? In this keynote, you will hear how Cisco is unifying access, building out new network services and making the network more manageable so you can meet the coming needs of your organization. We will also show you how you can support more aspects of your business using the network as a platform for the Internet of Things.
Monday, June 24, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

On to the stuff I *can* talk about…  the Weekly Overview and more after the jump.

AVC You in Orlando: There’s nothing Mickey Mouse about AVC!

I hope everyone is getting excited to take the Journey to the Sunshine State and have packed a few sets of mouse ears. A quick blog post this week as I have already run out of puns. I’d like to encourage you all to check out our Application Visibility and Control (AVC) partners at Cisco Live Orlando! There are three that I’d love to highlight.

InfoVista will be showing off their Application Visibility Solution in the Cisco Partner Pavilion and theater, ActionPacked! Networks has a very special announcement about LiveAction and can be found in booth 201, and Plixer’s Netflow Knights will highlight their full range of netflow support in booth 747 and our Partner Pavilion -- and even has a rap video, or so I’ve been told. I can’t wait to see in person what our customers think about our partners’ technologies. Also, come take a look at what Cisco has hidden beneath our huge plastic ears Read More »
