Cisco Blog > SP360: Service Provider

Just on the heels of our Packet Optical Networking Conference last week in San Jose we’re thrilled to announce another network operator has selected Cisco to make the transition to 100G. Last time was in the upper mountain state of Wyoming. This time it’s DukeNet Communications, a leading regional fiber network provider offering data and high-capacity bandwidth services to enterprise, data center, government and carrier customers. Primarily serving the southeastern United States, DukeNet controls an 8,000 route mile fiber-optic network now capable of delivering 100 Gbps services using Cisco’s nLight™ coherent Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. The Cisco ONS 15454-powered solution provides Read More »

A few months back we announced how Hrvatski Telekom, Croatia’s largest telecommunications company, is using a Cisco’s end-to-end solution for its advanced TeraStream cloud-enabled Internet Protocol (IP) architecture. Operated by Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT), it’s initially providing broadband services to residential users in the Zagreb area of Croatia.

The Global Certification Team is proud to announce that the Cisco Aggregate Services Routers (ASR) 9000 series have completed USGv6 Certification on software version 4.2.1 or later, with USGv6 SMU. The details of the certification can be found at https://www.iol.unh.edu/services/testing/ipv6/usgv6tested.php?company=7&type=Router.
The Cisco ASR 9000 system incorporates innovative technologies such as Cisco Network Virtualization (nV) technology, which intelligently blends the edge, aggregation, and access points to simplify operation and accelerate IPv6 services. Two new nV enabled platforms provide additional flexibility and support to optimize service delivery. More information can be found at Cisco.com

- Cisco ASR 9000 system with nV
We’ve talked a bit before about Cisco’s revolutionary network Virtualization technology or “nV.” In case you aren’t familiar with it, nV technology on the ASR product family intelligently blends the network edge, aggregation and access layers into a single system. This can deliver up to 70 percent operational expense savings, increase network capacity and accelerate IPv6 service deployments (very important since we’ve got the World IPv6 Launch next week). nV therefore addresses some of our customer’s most important business concerns by:
- Lowering capital costs by simplifying the network
- Lowering operational expenses by scaling the network operational efficiencies
- Increasing revenue by enabling them to better leverage network intelligence
But don’t just take our word for it. ACG Research has developed a Read More »

Part of what makes the network so powerful is its ability to transform economies and enable countries to leverage their unique characteristics, no matter how remote. Recently on SP360, we discussed how Iceland is becoming a leader in green cloud computing because of its low-cost geothermal power and high speed connectivity back to Europe and North America.
Bermuda, another island nation, is also harnessing the power of the network to maintain its leading role in the international insurance, trading, and financial sectors. Earlier this month, Read More »
