Education is changing. All around the world schools, colleges and universities are seeking new approaches to teaching that overcome longstanding barriers to learning. Innovative education leaders are using new technologies to expand access to education, increase student engagement and improve student outcomes.
The Mooresville Graded School District, one of the lowest funded districts in North Carolina, implemented a district-wide digital conversion and now ranks 2nd in the state in overall student achievement. Similar results are being realized across the public sector as government and healthcare leaders also seek new approaches to citizen services and healthcare delivery.
At Cisco, we are working to make it easier for educators, government officials and health care professionals to “be there” – to teach, to serve, to heal.

According to Cisco’s most recent Visual Networking Index (VNI) report, video now accounts for more than 50% of all consumer Internet traffic. By 2013, 91 percent of global Internet traffic is forecast to be video. Through my work with government and education leaders from around the globe, I believe that video technologies are now viewed as a fundamental catalyst for driving education transformation in schools and universities worldwide. Which is why I am proud to introduce a new infographic based on Cisco’s newest thought leadership research: ” Preparing Today’s Students for Tomorrow’s Challenges: The Impact of Video in the Education.”
The infographic provides a visual summary of the research report on the impact of video in education, how to strategically adopt video technologies into teaching and learning, and how to best guide students in the development of 21st century skills to prepare them for their role as global citizens. I truly believe it’s a perfect moment for educators everywhere to re-assess their use of video and to make the key decisions about how best to incorporate it into their students’ learning experience.
How will you transform your classrooms with video technologies?

Last week, Education leaders from around the globe flew to the Gulf. We were there to give a public vote of confidence to one of the world’s most ambitious programs of school system transformation at the Transforming Education Summit. The first annual Transforming Education Summit (TES) was conceived by conference host the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of ADEC. The summit’s vision is “to create a forum for effective transformation leadership and an open dialogue between the leaders of education transformation and their key stakeholders.”
Through a deep investment in teachers and technology, Abu Dhabi plans to turn its under-achieving students into world-beaters. Arab Spring governments have paid a high price for under-investing in young people. Those lessons are not lost on the UAE sheikhs.
