Next wave of data center innovation …

From the outset, Cisco Unified Fabric has been ahead of the curve and ahead of the market in its innovation and the value that it brings to Cisco customers. During Cisco Live Orlando last week, Cisco unveiled a two additions to its Unified Fabric portfolio: Dynamic Fabric Automation, which automates network provisioning and simplifies fabric management, and new Nexus 7700 Series switches, providing 40G/100G scalability and comprehensive feature set with new F3 modules.

Cisco also announced the vision for our revolutionary networking architecture with Application Centric Infrastructure.  Yet again, we are evolving our infrastructure to help IT departments dramatically simplify how they provision their data center resources (networking, servers, storage and services) that are critical to the performance of their applications. As we heard from Padmasree Warrior, “the Application Centric Infrastructure will give our customers the agility to deliver applications to end-users where they want, when they want, and to any device they want  – securely, rapidly, and at a lower cost.”

DukeNet Communications Makes the Leap to 100G

Just on the heels of our Packet Optical Networking Conference last week in San Jose we’re thrilled to announce another network operator has selected Cisco to make the transition to 100G. Last time was in the upper mountain state of Wyoming. Come Join Us at Cisco Packet Optical Networking Conference 2013

This year we’re moving our Packet Optical Conference 2013 to San Jose and it promises to be an exciting three days (May 14-16) full of demonstrations and sneak peeks at new platforms and technology. We’ve also got a number of industry speakers including Krish Prabhu, CEO of AT&T Labs and Bikash Koley, Principal Architect at Google, in addition to key Cisco leaders and technology visionaries. The event will also feature two customer panels featuring representatives from Comcast, Microsoft, Verizon, FTP Vietnam, and others.

Cisco 100G DWDM– Works Anywhere Over Anything

OK, so the title of this article isn’t totally accurate. Cisco’s 100G DWDM solution won’t work over barbed wire, or Cat-5 cable, or cotton string, but it will work on over 95% of the existing fiber in the ground, including systems that were designed to operate at 10 Gbps. Why is this important? Because 100G services aren’t just for large cities and international carriers. Even rural locations are starting to see Internet growth rates fast enough to justify the leap to 100G.

For example, to prepare for anticipated growth of IP network traffic, two independent communications providers in Wyoming recently completed a successful trial of a 100 Gbps optical connection. Silver Star Communications, based in Thayne WY, and Advanced Communications Technology (ACT), from Sheridan WY, completed this trial across 420 miles of existing fiber, over multiple networks in conjunction with Cisco in early April 2013.
