Service Management Acquisition Adds to Cisco Prime Platform for Network Management

We’re all glad that the Hurricane Irene rampage and floods are all behind us. Even though the massive clean-up efforts will take many months, the process has begun. Much like the National Weather Service and FEMA trying to manage all of the variations of tracking the hurricane and the effects on people and property, our service providers are trying to manage the millions of mobile connections, cloud-based applications, and zetabytes of data on their networks.

At Cisco, our strategy has focused on empowering the network by adding intelligence and integrating together advanced solutions that address customer requirements in the fast-moving, constantly growing, competitive service provider market. Our internal R&D expenditures last year reached $5 billion, surpassing all of our networking industry peers combined. Across the board, Cisco is known for delivering industry-leading solutions directly, via partners, and through acquisitions.

Last week Cisco announced its intent to acquire the service fulfillment software assets and associated employees from the UK subsidiary (formerly Axiom Systems) of parent company Comptel Corporation. Let me tell you why I’m excited for our customers by this.

To quote Jesper Andersen, senior vice president and general manager, Network Management Technology Group (NMTG),

“With the acquisition of AXIOSS software and talent, we will help enable service providers to generate greater profits using a single management architecture to drive quick monetization and optimization of their Cisco network investments.”

The AXIOSS software suite has already been successful for service providers and enterprises providing service management capabilities for their networks such as service catalog, order management, service inventory, and service activation. What’s great about bringing the suite under the Cisco umbrella is that Comptel is an existing Cisco partner, and the AXIOSS software suite has already begun to be integrated with Cisco’s Prime portfolio and our carrier-class IP solutions, and this acquisition will enable us to seamlessly integrate the full feature set. Our customers will benefit from cross-service management for video, data, voice, and enabling more capabilities for their network platforms. As part of Cisco Prime, service providers and enterprises can enable the workflow from order-to-activation across all services and automate related business processes.

In summary, this acquisition increases Cisco’s network management capabilities and complements our Prime portfolio giving enterprises and service providers more automation options for their business. In dedication to providing the best solutions through us and our partners (in this case, both), this acquisition of the AXIOSS software suite reflects our continued commitment to the Cisco Prime portfolio. Prime is our premier service creation and management platform for our customers to help them deliver and manage quality solutions with consistent, efficient, and easy-to-use tools driving down costs and reducing response time.

Stay tuned as I look forward to discussing our next steps forward in innovating Unified Service Delivery within the cloud, between clouds and beyond to the end customer.
