Network Programmability Collapses Traditional OSS Silos

Blog written by Stefan Vallin, Principal Engineer, Cisco Systems

Consider the three key steps related to provisioning and maintaining a customer network service. First, configuration of network devices according to the service intent, followed by activation tests. Finally, ongoing service level assurance monitoring to verify that the service delivered is what was committed.

Up until now, these activities have lived completely isolated from each other, in separate silos. Not surprising, it’s just human nature to break down complex systems and processes into separate entities since it makes things easier to manage, but the time is now to collapse these silos.

Radware and Cisco Sign OEM Agreement As DDoS Mitigation Becomes a SP Imperative

DDoS attacks are no longer just a nuisance and they can cause lasting damage. Organizations that ignore this threat often learn the high costs involved in the damage from these attacks – ranging from mild service degradation and to extended service outage. According to Aberdeen Group research, the cost of a one second delay in website load time can translate to a 7% reduction in conversion rate and up to $2.5 million in losses per year. The cost of outage? That can reach nearly half a million dollars per hour.

Threat-Centric Security for Service Providers

Unfortunately, cyber adversaries exploit the growing attack surface that these services expose by launching more sophisticated attacks that impact both the service provider and their customers.

Until now, the only viable approach for service providers to protect their networks has been to Read More »

Security and What Matters Most…

Summer is officially in full swing. My kids have finished with another school year. Our family vacation has been planned. When the family is away on vacation together, I worry a bit about the safety and security of our home, our personal information and of course our physical well-being when traveling. Still, even with ever more creative ways for cyber adversaries to disrupt our lives, for the most part, the systems in place have been successful at helping us avoid major catastrophe.

Our service provider customers are no different: They also worry about the safety and security of their networks and infrastructures Read More »
