ACG Research says “Cisco Continues Market Share Leadership in Mobility”

So the Summer of 2015 is quickly coming to a close here in New England, which means Fall is coming, and the leaves will soon begin to change color with the cooler temperatures. But according to ACC Research the Mobile Infrastructure is getting hot again, and starting to grow, which is great news.

Summer Mobility

According to ACG Research since 2014 mobile operators have been shifting more of their expenditures from the RAN to the packet core and to IP backhaul to more efficiently and economically offload data traffic and deploy innovative new services. Read More »

The History and Future of Internet Traffic

Man working in home office

I remember when 1 Mbps was big bandwidth. And 45 Mbps was unbelievably, outlandishly huge bandwidth. One spring day in 1995, at the headquarters of a large technology company outside of Dallas, there was excited chatter at the proverbial water cooler about the T3 access line that was being installed. A T3 line! Nearly 45 Mbps! Every thing really is bigger in Texas! We wondered what we would do with all that bandwidth, even though there were thousands of us at the location being served. Now, in 2015, the average broadband home has a 25 Mbps connection, and 20% of broadband homes worldwide have T3 speeds or higher, serving just the members of that household. And we now talk about yesterday’s data speeds Read More »

Are We Disrupting Ourselves Out of Jobs?

Much has been published in the industry about how automation will result in job loss e.g. the book, The Second Machine Age, as an example.

Further, the question is obvious as to whether or not the skills you have today will be relevant tomorrow?

Women at work
Such discussions have been occurring for the past several years since the financial crisis of 2008; and the question now pondered by enterprises and governments is :

  1. How do we grow the middle class?
  2. How do we provide skills to under-served communities?

#CiscoChat: Future of Service Provider Deployments in the Internet of Everything Era

Cisco_Chat_Future_LINKEDIN (4) Rehanna

In the world of service providers and networks, the demand for new and better services continues to grow. As more services and applications migrate to the Cloud, service providers will continue to play a crucial role in delivering quality experiences and performance at the speed businesses and consumers demand. What emerging technologies, trends, and unique opportunities are transforming the way next-generation services are developed?

The growth of video, wireless mobility, Internet of Everything (IoE), and cloud services presents both business opportunities and security challenges. To take advantage of these new opportunities, service providers are adopting open and programmable network architectures that increase business agility and lower costs.

Cyber risk, however, must be addressed. Adversaries are exploiting the growing attack surface presented by new services, expanded network connections, and device proliferation. Legacy security approaches have not kept pace with evolving network architectures or the changing threat landscape.

During our next #CiscoChat on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 10:30-11:00 a.m. PST, followed by a Periscope session at 11-11:30am PST, @CiscoSP360 will moderate a discussion on how to prepare your service provider business to thrive. The discussion will explore all the latest service provider technology news and looking ahead in deploying orchestration and virtualization to be more agile, reduce costs and generate new revenue. Cisco EPN Manager for Service Providers

Alison O'BrienGuest blog by Alison O’Brien, Marketing Manager

Following-up on the recent successful announcement of the Evolved Programmable Network Manager application (EPN Manager), we caught up with JL Valente, Vice President of Product Management for Cisco’s Cloud and Virtualization Group. He shared his thoughts on how EPN Manager can be used to manage converged, packet optimized optical transport and Carrier Ethernet networks, as well as enable organizations to address key business initiatives, including:

  • Improving business agility (and responsiveness) to market changes and transitions such as explosive traffic growth, packet optical network convergence and new business models prompted by over-the-top (OTT) entrants
  • Simplifying the overall approach to business operations by eliminating complex management systems and error-prone manual processes
  • More efficiently managing the time and manpower required to support daily network management tasks such as network provisioning, troubleshooting, and proactive network assurance.

We want to hear from you! Please feel free to comment, share and connect with us on Facebook and @CiscoSP360.
