Is it Too Early to Be Talking About Mobile World Congress?

Last month, a colleague stopped me and said, “Kit, it’s only November. Isn’t it too early to be discussing Mobile World Congress?” My answer, as you might have guessed, was an emphatic “no!”

This will be my 11th Mobile World Congress (MWC) and, for those of us actively engaged in the mobile space, it is the event of the year. It brings over 60,000 members of the mobility community—vendors, service providers, analysts and the media—all under the same roof for four full days to innovate, collaborate and shape the future of the industry.

It’s fitting that the theme of this year’s show is “Redefining Mobile,” because that’s exactly what Cisco is doing.  At MWC 2011, we launched our M.O.VE framework, designed to help mobile operators monetize and optimize the Mobile Internet while enhancing the video experience. Customers told us that their conversations with Cisco were among the most useful meetings they had that week. We heard over and over again that Cisco is offering the right solutions at the right time.

This year, Cisco’s Mobile Internet solutions will continue to M.O.VE service providers’ networks. We’re architecting the next generation Internet to be more mobile, more visual, more virtual and more simple. As mobile data access becomes increasingly critical to how we live, work, play, and learn, Cisco is partnering with global mobile operators to address these opportunities and challenges. To that end, we’re accelerating our enhancements of intelligent packet core, RAN, and Wi-Fi solutions.

As in the past, Cisco’s senior leadership team – including John Chambers – will once again be in Barcelona for the show. We’ve expanded our presence so that we can tell Cisco’s end-to-end mobility story and have the strategic conversations that are needed with you—our customers and partners.

I’ve been in the mobility industry for 15 years and I get excited for MWC every year. Where else does every conversation and every new idea have the potential to change the way we live our lives?

I’m eager to meet with as many of our customers and partners as I can. To schedule a meeting with me or other members of the Cisco team, please contact your Cisco account manager.  See you in Barcelona!
