Hear Comcast, Cox, & TWC Share Industry Perspectives on IPv6
Do you know how networks will transition from IPv4 to IPv6?
If you aren’t planning to attend the V6 World Congress next week let me invite you to a webinar on Wednesday February 8, 2012 at 1:00 PM New York / 6:00 PM London time. . Besides the vendor perspective from Cisco and other industry participants, this event hosted by Heavy Reading senior analyst Alan Breznick will feature an opportunity to hear from three of the largest cable operators in the USA. Included panelists are John Brzozowski, Distinguished Engineer & Chief Architect for IPv6, Comcast, Jeff Finkelstein, Senior Director of Network Architecture, Cox Communications, and Lee Howard, Director of Network Technology, Time Warner Cable.
Speaking on behalf for Cisco will be Fred Baker, Cisco Fellow and IPv6 Operations Chair. He’ll be discussing two issues facing the IPv6 transition process. One issue is the reality of address space, which is pushing operators towards IPv6 deployment. The second is the general desire on the part of service providers to avoid the need to run two parallel networks – or as he puts it, “if IPv4 is not the long-term answer, how many minutes will it take for me to drop it in favor of the long term answer?” Fred will share the process of getting from an IPv4-only network to an IPv6-only network that at most has IPv4 running as a tunnel overlay, a story relevant for both cable operators and other types of service providers alike.
