Nick Adamo, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Mr. Adamo, Senior Vice President for Cisco’s Service Provider business in the United States, drives Cisco’s overall relationship, investment and growth strategy in the ILEC/ RBOC, Cable, Mobile Wireless, Emerging Carriers and IXC Markets. He leads a team of over 1,000 people and has revenue responsibility in excess of $4 Billion annually.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Adamo was Vice President of the US ILEC market and responsible for the company strategy and overall business relationships with the largest Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers.

Mr. Adamo previously held key positions in the Enterprise market for Cisco, including the position of Vice President of the Northeast Area - responsible for the field Enterprise Sales Organization spanning New York City and State, New England, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

Additionally, Mr. Adamo was Operations Director of the Global Finance Operation for Cisco Systems in New York City where he managed the global relationship of Cisco’s largest banking, brokerage and market-data customers in New York City.

Before joining Cisco in July 1995 as an Account Executive supporting Merrill Lynch, Mr. Adamo spent eleven years with IBM in sales and sales management assignments in the Finance Industry.

Mr. Adamo is Cisco’s Board representative to ATIS – Alliance for Telecommunication’s Industry Solutions – and currently serves as Second Vice Chairman. ATIS is a United States body that is committed to rapidly developing and promoting technical and operations standards for the communications and related information technologies industry.

Complementing his professional affiliations, Mr. Adamo donates his time and is a member of the Board of Inwood House, a not-for-profit organization designed to raise money and awareness of the growing problem of pregnancy among high-risk teens in the New York City Area. What began as his managing a holiday toy drive in 1999, became his chairing Inwood House’s first Corporate Advisory Board. The board is comprised of more than 30 NYC private sector executives focused on providing resources, corporate awareness and guidance to this 175 year old NYC institution.

Mr. Adamo was recognized by Crain’s New York Business Magazine in May, 2001 as one of the top 100 most influential IT executives in NYC.

Mr. Adamo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from Columbia University. He and his wife, Kim, reside in Holmdel, New Jersey, with their three daughters.

Tony Bates is Senior Vice President of Cisco’s Service Provider Technology Group (SPTG). He is a member of Chairman and CEO John Chambers’ senior staff, and contributes to Cisco’s overall strategy and direction.

Bates is responsible for the overall strategy, engineering direction and execution, and marketing for SPTG. He leads a team of approximately 4,000+ employees and a technology group that generates over $5B in annual revenues.

The SPTG is comprised of the following: Core Routing Business Unit (BU); Edge Routing BU; Mid-range Routing BU; Optical Transport BU/Cable Modem Transmission Systems BU, Mobility Signaling Control BU, Service Routing Group, Service Provider Routing Software Group, Central Engineering, and Architectures & Systems Development.

Most recently, Bates was the SVP / GM of the Service Provider Routing Technology Group. Prior to that role, Bates was the Vice President and General Manager of Cisco’s high-end router business. During his tenure, he was responsible for the strategy and development of Cisco’s flagship CRS-1 high end router, GSR and Multi- Service WAN (MGX) product lines.

Since first joining Cisco in 1996, Bates has held a number of other positions, most notably Director of Marketing for the Optical Internetworking business unit; Manager of Engineering for Internet POP Systems, and Technical Leader in the Office of the Chief Technology Officer.

Prior to Cisco, Bates spearheaded the backbone-engineering strategy for Internet MCI (MCI’s national IP backbone).

Bates has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and Internet industries. He has published 12 IETF RFCs in the areas of Internet Routing and Operations, and holds 8 patents in the area of layer 2 and layer 3 innovations.

Bates is a current Member of the Board of LoveFilm International and Bubble Motion, Inc. He is a former Member of the Board of YouTube, Inc.


Carlos Dominguez

Carlos Dominguez has been with Cisco Systems, Inc. since 1992. During his tenure at Cisco he has held a number of pivotal positions in both the Enterprise and Service Provider Organization. Mr. Dominguez is currently the Sr. Vice President for the Service Provider Organization in the U.S. which focuses in the ILEC/RBOC, Cable, Emerging Carriers and the IXC Markets. In his current role Mr. Dominguez leads a team of over 1200 people and has revenue responsibilities in excess of 2 Billion annually.

Prior to his current position he was the Vice President - US Network Service Provider Sales, a group that focused on new, emerging Service providers. Prior to his NSP role, Mr. Dominguez led the team responsible for the Enterprise line of Business in the Northeast USA and established Cisco in a number of strategic markets (Financial Services, Media, Government and Pharmaceuticals.) His leadership has contributed significantly to Cisco's phenomenal growth through the 1990's ($35M and 16 people in 1992 to over $20B and 35,000 employees as of 2001). Prior to Cisco, Mr. Dominguez held management positions at Timeplex, Inc., Woodcliff Lake, NJ and New Jersey Bell / Bell Atlanticom., Newark, NJ.

Mr. Dominguez serves on the Board of Directors of: • ThruPoint (Service Company) • Communities in Schools of NJ (a non-profit organization that focus on keeping high risk children in school). • NACME Board (A Non Profit organization - National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering). • First Baptist Community Development Corporation (Non-Profit) • YMCA

Mr. Dominguez has a great deal of passion, which he infuses into all of his activities, and is deeply committed and energetically focused on educational and children issues.

Mr. Dominguez has recently been selected as one of America's most powerful Hispanic executives in technology and business by Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology, the nation's premiere Hispanic technology publication. Mr. Dominguez has an electrical engineering background from the University of P.R., Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Mr. Dominguez was born in Cuba and has lived in New Jersey since 1963.

Mr. Dominguez lives in Old Tappan, NJ with his wife Tina and 3 daughters, Tara, Christina and Katherine.

Robert C. McIntyre currently serves as chief technical officer of Scientific Atlanta.

From 1991-1997, McIntyre held leadership roles in Scientific Atlanta’s Transmission and Subscriber businesses, and is well-known as both a business and a technical leader. From 1997-1998, he served as President, CEO of Avex, Inc., an electronic manufacturing company in Huntsville, Alabama.

Prior to joining Scientific Atlanta, McIntyre was VP/GM of Augat’s Interconnection Products Group. Earlier in his career, he was VP/GM of GTE Communication Systems in both their Telephone Switching and Transmission businesses. McIntyre also spent 11 years at General Electric, working in a variety of technical management positions. He also participated in General Electric’s General Management Development Program.

McIntyre holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy and Materials from Carnegie Mellon University. He has done graduate work at Penn State in Engineering Mechanics, and at Gannon University in Business Administration Training programs. McIntyre became a member of the Network Advisory Council of Accenture in 2006.


Kelly Ahuja

Kelly Ahuja is Vice President/General Manager of the Core Routing Business Unit at Cisco. In this role, he leads the engineering and marketing organization for part of Cisco's service provider portfolio of routers and media gateways.

Before his current role, Ahuja was Vice President of Marketing for the Carrier Core Multi Service Business Unit at Cisco, where he led the product management and technical marketing organization for Cisco’s high-end routing portfolio as well as multiservice switches and media gateways. He previously served as Vice President of Marketing at BlueLeaf Networks, a startup developing optical switching and transmission systems that use disruptive in-house technology. In this role, he led BlueLeaf's global marketing and business development activities. Before BlueLeaf, Ahuja was director of marketing at Cisco, where he led global marketing for the company's premier high-end routers. Previously at Cisco and StrataCom, he led the product marketing team for the Cisco IGX 8400 Series of network switches. At StrataCom he played a major technical marketing role supporting AT&T. Before StrataCom, Ahuja led the design and deployment of data and voice networks for several organizations in AT&T Canada. He also held engineering and analyst positions with Bank of Canada and Telesat Canada, designing, implementing, and supporting data and voice networks.

Ahuja holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada.


Paul Bosco

Paul is currently Vice President, Cable & Video Initiatives at Cisco reporting to Charles Giancarlo. In this role Paul leads Cisco product, solution and strategic partnership activities for cable and video/iptv operators – including serving in advisory roles with lead customers. He also co-chairs the Cisco Global Cable Segment Council responsible for the development and execution of Cisco’s strategy in the cable segment.

The Cable & Video Initiatives organization includes industry recognized product development, solutions engineering, business development, technical architect and other professionals working directly with Cisco service provider customers to enable and deliver innovative new consumer entertainment services. Product development efforts currently reporting to Paul include video and television on-demand systems, advertisement serving, Internet content delivery networking, and new video/iptv switching systems – including the recently acquired Arroyo Video Solutions, Inc.

Paul has served in general management, engineering leadership, product marketing and consulting roles across his twenty year career. He has held positions in global high technology and consumer broadband market leaders including Cisco, IBM, USWest/MediaOne, Continental Cablevision and SBC/SNET. His current focus is on transformation platforms for convergent service delivery to the exploding number of wired, wireless and mobile connected devices in our lives – including support for service velocity, feature integration and experience leadership.

At Cisco Paul previously served as Vice President and General Manager of the Cable Business Unit. In this role he architected and led Cisco’s highly successful entry into the cable segment – building a portfolio of industry leading products, solutions, partnerships and standards activities. The Cisco CMTS achieved particular success uniquely based on close customer collaboration throughout the product concept, architecture, engineering and deployment process.

At USWest/MediaOne and Continental Cablevision Paul built and led engineering organizations responsible for backbone, metro, data center, provisioning and applications systems which served as the foundation for the explosive success of cable delivered high speed Internet services. He also contributed to the industry showcase DOCSIS specification.

With SBC/SNET Paul served as Director, Internet and Video applications. His team was responsible for Internet on-line and video applications development including portals, navigation, applications, the overall set top user experience, and broadcast/on demand systems. The SBC/SNET efforts included early deployments of on-demand consumer services.

At IBM Paul led the R&D group responsible for the highly innovative distributed Internet routing platforms developed and deployed for NSFNET and other major backbone networks. Paul received IBM Outstanding Technical Innovation, Masters Fellowship, Doctoral Fellowship and achievement awards for his contributions to NSFNET and the Internet. He began his IBM career as a computer scientist in software architecture, systems development and distributed systems.

Paul has been named a Fellow of the Nemours Foundation with a focus on the application of networking technologies to children’s health; served as a White House Intern to the National Economic Council focused on telecommunications economics and policy; sits on several pre-IPO high technology boards; and has been named one of “Top Twenty to Watch” in High Technology. Paul has also been a Visiting Fellow within MIT research efforts on HDTV (DOHRS) and New Media (NMIS) including roles in networked multimedia research with Turner Broadcasting, CMU and the Dartmouth School of Medicine. He is a graduate of Yale University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Lehigh University.


Larry Lang

Larry Lang is vice president and general manager of the Mobility, Signaling and Control Business Unit at Cisco. His team develops leading network offerings for mobile wireless operators, including IP radio access networks and the Mobile Service Exchange Framework, comprising packet gateways for GSM, CDMA and 3G. His team also develops solutions for service providers in the areas of next-generation signaling, call control and SIP-based session control.

Previously at Cisco, Lang served as vice president of service provider marketing, including joint programs like Cisco Powered Networks. Past product responsibility included high-end routing, ATM, and the CiscoFusion architecture for switched internetworks. Notably, Lang initiated one of Cisco's most successful products, the Cisco 7500.

Prior to joining Cisco, Mr. Lang was vice president of product management at Ipsilon Networks, where he helped pioneer IP switching, predecessor to Mutiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). He also worked on new service definition at Bellcore (now Telcordia).

Mr. Lang received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and an M.S. degree in Operations Research from Stanford University. He is a member of the IEEE, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Society of Women Engineers, and serves on the board of visitors for the Duke Pratt School of Engineering.


Jeff Spagnola

With 16 years tenure at Cisco Systems, Jeff Spagnola leads Cisco’s Worldwide Service Provider Marketing organization as Vice President since October 2004, where he is responsible for the marketing of Cisco’s solutions and technologies to service providers worldwide. As a leader of Cisco’s Service Provider Business Council, Jeff participates in the development and execution of Cisco’s Service Provider strategy. In addition to his marketing role, Jeff is responsibility for the acceleration of advanced technologies through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other key standards bodies. Jeff is a frequent speaker at both industry conferences and standards forums and is a spokesperson for Cisco’s service provider strategy.

Jeff recently took on the position of board chair for the Center for Telecom Management (CTM), an industry-sponsored center at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, devoted to research and education to help the networked digital industry and its customers grow and prosper. Jeff also sits on the board of NXTcomm, the largest tradeshow in the United States for service providers.

Jeff has cultivated his extensive networking experience through a number of leadership roles in Cisco’s service provider and enterprise field organizations. Prior to his role as vice president, Jeff was a leader of Cisco’s mobile operator customer segment and responsible for sales, strategy and operations for mobile operators within the United States. Jeff spent an additional two years leading the service provider challenger segment and independent operating companies (IOC) throughout the United States. Previous to these sales roles, Jeff was in service provider marketing managing the implementation of the Cisco Powered Network program and service provider alliance programs outside of the United States. In addition to many years working with service provider customers, Jeff had held various field leadership roles in Cisco’s enterprise sales organization focused on large customers based in Northern California.

Prior to joining Cisco in 1991, Jeff spent eight years in working for NCR Corporation, Case Communications Ltd., and Develcon Electronics. Jeff holds a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Dayton located in Dayton, Ohio. Jeff and his wife live in Los Gatos, California with their two children Jeffrey (15) and Carly (13).

Tony Wasilewski is chief scientist with Subscriber Network Systems at Scientific Atlanta, Inc, A Cisco Company. Tony has responsibilities as both a technical adviser and system architect to both the Digital Subscriber Networks and Advanced Subscriber Networks business units of Scientific Atlanta. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, Tony received a B.A. in Physics with Honors from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in Astronomy from Case Western Reserve University in 1982, specializing in extra-galactic spectroscopy. Before coming to Scientific Atlanta in 1984, he was a software engineer with Nuclear Data, Inc. and a post-doctoral research associate at Penn State University.

At Scientific Atlanta, Tony has designed, developed and managed the development of CATV addressable control computer systems which have included National Language Support for international markets and Conditional Access systems. He has directed the development of control systems for interactive, multimedia systems including support for digital video and signaling standards. He also wrote software for radar-cross-section data acquisition systems. Tony’s areas of concentration are in real-time control system design, interactive communications systems, conditional access/cryptography, and software development using object-oriented and structured techniques. He led the effort to develop the first commercial public-key-based conditional access system in the CATV industry: PowerKEY.

Tony holds numerous patents in the pay-TV, multimedia transport and conditional access areas. He is an accomplished speaker at industry events and conferences, and received an Engineering Emmy Award for “pioneering work in the development of digital video compression systems for digital television” from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 48th Emmy Awards ceremony. He is a member of the IEEE, ACM, ANSI X3L3.1 and SCTE.


Joe Wojtal

Joe Wojtal is Vice President of Service Provider Architectures and Systems Development, where he is responsible for creating Cisco’s long-term architectural plans for Cisco’s Wireline, Mobile, and Cable segments. Additionally, Joe develops integrated systems – or collections of products – to fulfill specific needs within each of the segment architectures.

Wojtal is also the operations lead for Cisco’s Service Provider Business Council. In this role, he manages the day-to-day activities of the cross-functional team responsible for developing Cisco’s SP business strategy and for delivering Cisco’s SP results.

Wojtal began his career at Cisco in 1994 as an SE in the Federal Sales organization. In 1995, he was asked to join the new SP Sales team as one of the key members chartered with building its new engineering and technical infrastructure. In 1997, he led the creation of the Consulting Systems Engineering team for US SP Sales and in 1999, Wojtal was promoted to Director of US SP, Technical Operations with full responsibility for the Americas SP SE team.

In 2001, he was promoted to Senior Director of Worldwide SP Technical Operations, where he led the development of the Technical Leadership Program, a venue for detailed technical discourse between the sales force and the Technology Groups. Due to his tremendous contributions, he was promoted to Vice President, Worldwide SP Technical Operations later that same year. In December of 2002, he was named Vice President, Worldwide Technical Operations, where he was responsible for Cisco’s Worldwide SE Organization.

In January 2005, Wojtal was named Vice President of Worldwide Service Provider Business Operations where he was responsible for ensuring the excellence of the Worldwide Service Provider Sales Force. In this capacity, Wojtal was focused on collaboration with technical, service and marketing leads from each part of the globe to establish and execute a worldwide SP strategy to align Cisco’s SP customer products, solutions and technology needs with Cisco’s development plans and account strategies. He was named to his current role in August 2006.

Influential in the high-tech industry for 20 years, Wojtal has a B.S.E.E. from Washington University and an M.S.E.E. from University of Massachusetts. Wojtal received his Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) certification in 1996. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, national engineering honorary organizations, as well as the IEEE. Prior to joining Cisco, Wojtal held the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force.


Doug Webster

Doug Webster is the Director of Strategic Communications for Cisco Systems worldwide service provider marketing group. In that capacity, he has responsibilities for overall messaging and content development on the company’s service provider strategy and for its delivery through a wide range of vehicles including customer, press, analyst, investor, and internal communications.

Previously, he held messaging responsibilities with Cisco’s Optical Networking Group, and wide-ranging duties with the Company’s network security business units.

Before joining Cisco Systems, Doug was an initial employee and Director of Communications of WheelGroup Corporation, a network security startup that was acquired by Cisco in 1998.

Doug graduated from Yale University with a degree in economics and has served four years as a decorated officer in the US Air Force and in an elected position on the Board of Directors of one of the largest credit unions in the United States.

He lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, two sons and daughter.


Al Safarikas

Al Safarikas has had over 20 years of senior management experience with technology and telecommunications firms. Al is passionate communicator and a frequent speaker at industry conferences, in standards body events, as well as with the press and analysts. He is multilingual, and has lived, worked and traveled across five continents.

Al leads Managed and Hosted Services and the Cisco Powered program within Cisco Systems service provider marketing organization were he has responsibility for helping Service Providers build efficient, scalable networks, deploy high-margin revenue-generating services, accelerate end-customer demand for services, and optimize both customer-facing and back-office business and network operations.

Most recently was the service provider business leader for Microsoft’s Communications Sector where he was charged with shaping and driving strategy for providing software solutions that enable service providers to create differentiated offerings, and drive new revenue streams.

Previously Al held executive leadership positions with Nortel Networks in businesses spanning from Metro Optical and Metro Ethernet, through VoIP and Packet Networks to Access Networks and Managed Services. He distinguished himself as a strategic leader across diverse disciplines including: business development, channel development, product management, and communications.

Prior to joining Nortel, Al was part of the management team at Memotec Communications post spin out from parent Teleglobe in 1994. Through the 1980’s and early 90’s, Al headed up development for an industry leading PC startup where he successful introduced new capabilities and designs in desktop, network and portable computing for which he holds design patents.

Al Safarikas holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from McGill University and an MBA from Concordia University’s Molson School of Business.

Suraj Shetty is the senior director of marketing for the Cisco Worldwide Service Provider Marketing organization and leads a number of teams responsible for driving service provider success in development and deployment of advanced services based on Cisco products and solutions. His principal areas of focus include enabling service providers to transform into experience providers through the Cisco IP Next Generation network (IP NGN) architecture and deliver rich Connected Life experiences. Shetty is also focused on the acceleration of advanced IP technologies through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and other industry standards bodies.

Shetty is a frequent speaker at industry events and symposia and is a principal Cisco spokesperson to press as well as both industry and financial analysts.

Shetty has held many product management and marketing roles in his 11 years at Cisco, including two-tier distribution channel marketing, product marketing for DSL-related products and solutions, and the Cisco Broadband Aggregation solution portfolio. Prior to his current position, Shetty served as director of marketing in the Cisco Service Provider Routing Technology Group with responsibility for service provider core and edge routing products.

Prior to joining Cisco, Shetty was a Senior Engineering Consultant at Eicon Technology, focused on Systems Network Architecture (SNA) gateway and routing solutions. Shetty holds a M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a bachelor of engineering degree in electronics and communications from Karnatak University in India. He lives in San Jose with his wife and two children.

Monique has been involved in developing managed Network Services like Remote Access and LAN Switching in a Service Provider environment. Monique has worked for both enterprise and service provider companies in the United States and in Europe. Monique led the Engineering Project team for one of the first European MPLS-VPN deployments in 1999 for a European service provider.

Monique has presented in various conferences on the topic of MPLS. Additionally, Monique is co-author of the book Designing IP-Based Services: Solutions for Vendors and Service Providers. Monique is co-author of the book, MPLS VPN Security and co-author of the book, MPLS and Next-Generation Networks: Foundations for NGN and Enterprise Virtualization. Monique is currently working on a book one that presents enterprise drivers and concerns for IP-based service delivery. She was co-guest editor of a special issue of the IEEE Communications Magazine on the subject of “OAM in MPLS-based Networks”, published in October 2004 ; co-guest editor of a special issue of the IEEE Communications Magazine on the subject of “Challenges in Enabling Inter-Provider Service Quality on the Internet” published in June, 2005 as well as co-guest editor of a special issue of the IEEE Communications Magazine on the subject of, “GMPLS: The Promise of the Next Generation Optical Control Plane,” published in July 2005.

Monique is active in both the IETF and ITU-T SG 13 with a focus on OAM. Additionally, Monique is the Vice-Chair of the IPsphere Forum. She is also working on NGN for service providers and Grid technology. Monique has an M.S in Telecommunications Management and an MBA.
