Ever wonder how some people are using online meetings?
We talk a lot about the value of using video conferencing to solve business problems, but sometimes the problem is a little out of the ordinary. Here are three different ways folks are using online meetings like WebEx to communicate in a new way.

Making Government Accessible: Live Video plus Social Media Improves Communication
In Illinois, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is hosting an online town hall meeting to improve communication with local constituents. During the forum, Cook County residents can share ideas with Preckwinkle on the county budget, which will then be discussed by the board in coming weeks. There will be video of the town hall streaming live online and viewers can submit questions at the “Tell Toni” page of her website or via Twitter using the hashtag #TellToni.
Working with a Mentor – Online
US News and World Report offers a story about the way learning online has created other opportunities for online connections. In this case, it’s about finding a mentor. Mentors provide practical advice that supplements what MBA students are learning in B-school. But what if you are getting an online MBA? How do you find help? “In today’s world, mentoring takes many forms through a variety of channels. Yes, there is still the traditional sit-down with your mentor for a weekly or monthly chat, but increasingly telephone, E-mail, social media, limited group blogs, and even public blogs are playing a role,” says Robert Mittelstaedt, the dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, which offers an online Professional MBA program.
Yoga for the Digital Age: Get Your Zen On
Sara Hamilton sought a new and different way to share yoga with people who either have not accessed it through formal classes at yoga studios and gyms or have felt apprehensive about trying yoga for the first time in front of their peers. From here, the idea of an all-online class was born. Completely new and experimental, the idea was to encourage people regardless of location. Sara taught yoga classes over the course of a week completely online using WebEx. Participants needed only a yoga mat and a computer with an internet connection. Classes were completely free and accessible worldwide.
Don’t be trapped by thinking online meetings are just for doing the same old, same old using a computer instead of sitting in a meeting. Think about how to use the WebEx to deliver solutions in a different way.
