Security

Today, more than ever, an increasing number of Cisco employees and its extended workforce are connecting to Cisco’s corporate network using their devices of choice. The speed by which these devices are joining the network is not only staggering, but also significantly impacting the IT and security organizations’ approach to protecting the information assets and the services we deliver. The Apple iPad, as a prime example, actually appeared on the Cisco network the day before the technology was released to the general public, showing that IT and security professionals need to be aware, prepared, and nimble enough to keep pace with the speed of today’s innovation and change.

As work-life integration continues to be a differentiator for businesses large and small, we see the “consumerization of IT”—the technologies we use in our personal lives blending into our work environment—not only increasing exponentially, but also impacting IT and security on many new levels. With such a tech-savvy workforce, Cisco IT and security professionals recognize the “Any Device” trend—also known as “Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD)”—as inevitable. This trend offers a number of tangible business benefits, such as productivity improvements, faster time-to-capabilities, and cost reduction that go well beyond employee satisfaction. Yet there are key considerations that we must also identify to ensure that we maximize these benefits while managing associated risk.

Cisco is moving confidently along the journey toward an “Any Service, Any Device, Anywhere” environment, with many network, technology, and security components already in place. We invite you to learn more about Cisco’s journey described in the white paper, The Journey to Any Device: Planning a Productive and Competitive Future, authored by Cisco IT and Information Security practitioners.

Have you set off on your own Any Device journey, and if so, what roadblocks have you faced, and do you have any leading practices to share?
