Today, IT departments are receiving an increasing number of requests to support more mobile devices from a broader range of manufacturers than ever before. In fact, yesterday’s New York Times took a good look at companies that embrace BYOD (bring your own device). The gist is that today’s employee wants to leverage these mobile devices to improve their productivity. Based on resources, corporate security concerns and data protection, traditionally this has been at odds with IT departments.
Times are a changing though. In the New York Times piece, Mike Cunningham, chief technology officer for Kraft Foods, said it best: “We heard from people saying, ‘How come I have better equipment at home?’ We said, hey, we can address that.”
Cisco has embraced the “Any Device” vision (BYOD), which allows for greater employee choice in devices while maintaining a common, predictable user experience and addressing productivity and security concerns.
Today we’re pleased to announce that the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is extending this “Any Device” concept to leading Android device platforms.
Recently supported platforms include:
- Cisco Cius Tablets
- HTC smartphones and tablets (support will soon be available for many devices)
- Lenovo ThinkPad tablet
This is in addition to Cisco’s initial support for Android platforms, which included Samsung Android (including many Galaxy S, S II, and Tab devices) and rooted Android devices.
Cisco’s wide mobile platform coverage also includes:
- iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch)
- Windows Mobile 6.1
- HP WebOS
- Nokia Symbian
And the following desktop platforms:
- Windows (including compatibility with the current Windows 8 beta seed)
- Mac OS X (including Lion)
AnyConnect combined with Cisco’s Web Security Appliance or ScanSafe provides secure web access to your organization’s ever-mobile workforce. This solution secures your users from the threats that would impede their productivity, while keeping them connected, and minimizing any disruptions.
