When I remodeled my bathroom a few years ago, my initial plan included only a few things: I wanted it to feel bigger (it’s a small space), and everything needed to be replaced – the utilities, furniture, walls, floors, and window.
I know what I like, and I know what I want, but I don’t know the first thing about designing a new bathroom. Add to that a full-time job and three children under the age of 10, I knew I needed to hire someone who could take complete control of the project while still delivering everything I wanted.
I hired a contractor who could not only do the physical labor, but one who had the expertise to plan and design the whole thing. He asked me questions about which members of the family use the bathroom, and how often, in order to deliver the most relevant plan that fit our lifestyle. Through his consultation, he discovered that this bathroom was the main bathroom in the house, heavily used by our family and visitors alike. Based on that fact, he recommended a redesign that provided the optimum privacy for our family of 5 – something I hadn’t even considered when initially launching the project. From knocking out my old hallway junk closet, creating a wider space, to his thoughts on the light fixtures I chose, my contractor was a true partner who interpreted, planned, and delivered exactly what I wanted.
The project took about two months and my new bathroom is absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t have done it that well, and especially in that timeframe, without my contractor’s expertise and guidance.
At Cisco, our Advanced Services organization provides expertise around planning, building, and managing your business-critical network. Cisco Advanced Services provides professional services, such as consultative planning, solution development, and deployment services, as well as network optimization and automation services, to help deliver whole network solutions that address and solve your company’s business problems and maximize investments.
For example, the University of Texas Health Science Center used Cisco’s FISMA Risk Assessment Services to comply with the Federation Information Security Management Act (FISMA) required by new federal regulation. Cisco provided expertise around FISMA compliance, a detailed assessment of security and risk controls, and identified areas for improvement.
“After we explained our initial needs, the Cisco Services team responded immediately,” says William Sanns, faculty associate and director of information systems in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics at the UT Health Science Center. “They knew exactly what FISMA compliance entailed, and what needed to be done in order for us to address the research contract’s specific requirements. We were very impressed, and knew right then that we were in good hands.”
Sara Boettcher, PhD, Director of Research Systems and Technology, Office of the Vice President for Research University of Texas Health Science Center also had this to say about Cisco Services’ involvement in the project:
“Thanks to the Cisco FISMA General Risk Assessment Service, we now have a clear understanding of how to address compliance issues as it relates to our security operations. And more importantly, we can re-use that information across future projects that also require FISMA compliance.”

To remain one of the nation’s most integrated healthcare systems, Sentara Healthcare needed to deliver a new security strategy to identify and authenticate users and devices which are accessing hospital networks.
Sentara used Cisco Advanced Services to outline security requirements and support Sentara engineers as they rigorously tested the Norfolk data center for four months. The Cisco Advanced Services team also validated relevant configurations and performed a risk analysis and readiness assessment to make sure that hospital’s network was ready for deployment.
“Cisco Professional Services was invaluable. They reduced our learning time and ensured we had everything we needed for testing and production.” Bill Fosket, network engineer, Savant.
Chat Spiers, Director, Voice and Data Infrastructure Services, Sentara, also had this to say about Cisco Services:
“We know we can count on Cisco Professional Services as we deploy new networked technologies to deliver superior healthcare.”
