As Andrew learned the hard way, doing your research before you make an investment pays off, whether you’re buying a car or equipment for your network.

In this episode of Partner Update, we explore total cost of ownership and why it’s the only true way to measure network costs. We also cover storytelling tips and methods learned from esteemed author and presentation expert Nancy Duarte (she created the presentation you see in Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth), our October 18 TweetChat with Nancy, our October 20 broadcast covering LinkedIn for B2B, virtualization technology news, Cisco’s own Edison Peres’ travels to speak with partners in South America, LEAP centers to help partners test out data centers, tips for solution providers, and much more. 0:08 -- Measuring Network
Whether you’re buying a car or equipment for your network, Total Cost of Ownership is the only true way to measure costs. Cisco Channels blogger Kalpana Ettenson recently blogged about this topic and included a link to a recent whitepaper discussing how next-generation networks deliver superior TCO. Check out the blog and be sure to let customers know that Cisco has the lowest TCO.

You can also check out The Economics of Networking replay where Ross Fowler, Worldwide Area Vice President, Cisco Borderless Networks, Jesper Andersen, Senior Vice President, Cisco Network Management Technology Group, and Paul Russello, VP, Global Workplace & Infrastructure Services at Xerox discuss the true economics of networking including quantitative costs of acquisition, services, labor, bandwidth, energy, and product longevity, as well as the qualitative business benefits such as network uptime, user productivity, and lifecycle management.

0:54 – Virtual Partner Velocity: How to Persuade Any Audience & How to Get a Free Copy of Resonate: Presenting Visual Stories That Transform Audiences
We had a little technical glitch during our latest Virtual Partner Velocity broadcast so we weren’t able to go live with our guest speaker, best-selling author and presentation expert Nancy Duarte. However, we were able to record the event and make the replay available on-demand! Check out the recap and replay.

And don’t forget to complete the survey after you watch the replay. Cisco partners who complete the survey will receive a copy of Nancy’s book, Resonate: Presenting Visual Stories That Transform Audiences and be entered into a drawing to win an iPad 2.

Then, on Tuesday, October 18 from 8-9 a.m. PDT, join us for a live TweetChat session with Nancy and ask her your presentation and storytelling questions. Those who join the TweetChat will be entered into a drawing to win a signed copy of Nancy’s book.

1:29 – Upcoming Virtual Partner Velocity: Leveraging LinkedIn for Business
Register now for our next Virtual Partner Velocity session on October 20 from 8-9 a.m. PDT with channel strategist and blogger Heather Margolis who will share ways to leverage LinkedIn for B2B. Complete the event survey and enter a sweepstakes to win a social media assessment and consulting with Heather’s firm.

1:38 – Networking News x2
Last week, Cisco had not one but TWO networking announcements. The first was an update to the Cisco WAAS portfolio. (SPOILER ALERT: there was mention of five times the bandwidth!) The second announced new flexibility for customers deploying Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Switches with the new Supervisor Engine 7L-E. It offers significantly higher performance and capacity at the same cost as the current generation Supervisor Engine 6L-E. Get all of the details here on the Channels blog.

2:06 – Next phase of Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI)
Last week, Cisco also unveiled the next phase of its Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) with a series of offerings and innovations that can deliver uncompromised desktop virtualization experiences. Learn more about all of these exciting innovations and how to start selling them.

2:23 – Channels SVP Meets With Partners in Buenos Aires
Channels SVP Edison Peres recently blogged about his experience at the most recent Cisco Partner Executive Exchange (CPEE) event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While he was there he met with our Latin American partners and they shared their thoughts on what’s working at Cisco and suggested areas for improvement. Didn’t get a chance to make it out to Buenos Aires? Get the details of the event on Edison’s blog and be sure to submit your feedback in the comments section.

2:48 – LEAP Center (Not Just for Leaping)
Our friends over at the Westcon Group recently celebrated the one year mark of the opening of their first LEAP Center. LEAP stands for Learn, Experience, Architect, and Plan -- it’s where partners go for hands-on training and demos in a lab environment, not a place where one goes to leap, as Andrew assumed.

Westcon Group CTO Bill Hurley filled us in on what’s been going on over the past year. Get the details now and find out why Cisco partners should take advantage of what the LEAP Centers have to offer.

3:37 – Amazon Consulting Guest Blog: Plenty of Room in the Cloud for Cisco Solution Providers
In our ongoing series featuring Amazon Consulting, we posted a new blog from Cary Tengler, Director of Client Services. In this post, Cary shares the results from their recent survey of 64 global IT vendors and why now is the time for Cisco’s VARs to take a closer look at their own cloud services and partnering strategies. Get all of Cary’s recommendations.

4:03 – Tweet of the Week
Partner Update just wouldn’t be complete without Tweet of the Week! This week’s tweet comes from @DimensionDataAM: “For the third straight year, we’ve achieved the #Cisco Master Security Specialization! bit.ly/qeKTTO

That’s a huge accomplishment! Congratulations Dimension Data!

Well partners, that brings us to the close of Partner Update! But the news doesn’t stop just because the camera’s stop rolling. Check back soon for a fresh batch of partner news! Until then, you stay classy partners.
