This week the Channels blog will be bringing you coverage of Citrix Synergy in San Francisco. This event demonstrates how virtualization, networking, and cloud technologies work together. Cisco and Citrix have collaborated to ease the implementation of desktop virtualization by making virtual desktops simpler, more cost effective, and more robust for mainstream enterprise adoption by our mutual customers.
The event looks to be filled with interesting sessions—breakouts, keynotes, and hands-on demonstrations. This morning, we sat in on a channel breakout session where we heard about accelerating Citrix XenDesktop deployments using the combined desktop virtualization solutions from Cisco, Citrix, and NetApp.
We’re also happy to pass along the news that Cisco won an award!
Cisco won the 2011 Citrix Ready Business Solution of the Year with the Cisco Desktop Virtualization Solution with Citrix XenDesktop, the most cost-effective and scalable platform for desktop virtualization. Cisco was chosen for this award based on five selection criteria: Impact on Citrix Systems’ business, commitment to its relationship with Citrix Systems, customer satisfaction, channel and field commitment, and marketing commitment. If you’d like to watch a clip of the announcement of the award, one of the attendees grabbed this video.
Speaking of solutions, the session we sat in on featured Marilyn Cepuran from Cisco, Stephen Teh from Citrix and Ben DuBois from NetApp. The three presenters talked about how Cisco’s UCS–combined with XenDesktop, and NetApp storage–provides your customers with risk mitigation, helping drive business agility at a lower cost.
The message to partners is that end-users are putting pressure on IT; they want adaptability and agility with their own personal devices. And the end-goal is providing customers with access at any time from any device.
According to Gartner, there will be 56 million desktop virtualization licenses deployed between 2012 and 2014. The market opportunity promises that 500,000 new blade servers will be deployed. Add to that the storage needs that accompany it, and new network storage devices, and the business and technical services that will be wrapped around it—this will provide a margin-rich opportunity for partners. Channel partners play a key role, since they piece the whole puzzle together for customers.
It was definitely a useful and informative session: we’re excited to learn more during our time here. Be sure to check back here on the blog this week as we offer more coverage of Citrix Synergy and how Cisco and Citrix solutions can help you drive business and draw in even more customers.
