Today, Cisco released the latest results from its Connected World Report, an international study on the expectations of workers in accessing social media and corporate information, and on the views of IT professionals about these trends.  Focused on data center, cloud computing, and virtualization trends, the latest results from the study will be presented today during a live TV broadcast from 8:00-9:00 a.m. PDT. To view the broadcast, click here just before show time. To view all results from the study, visit the Cisco Connected World Report.

Commissioned by Cisco and conducted by the market research firm InsightExpress, the study involved 2,600 workers and IT professionals across a variety of industries in 13 countries, and revealed some interesting trends.  Based on survey responses from IT professionals, the latest installment of the report reveals that data center teams are beginning to integrate and collaborate more as a result of unifying data center infrastructure such as unified fabric and unified computing.  IT respondents also predicted the trend towards unified data center architecture will result in more new training courses and certifications that will create new cross-functional job roles and career opportunities, such as Data Center Architect.

IT professionals also rated virtualization and cloud computing high on the list of priorities for the data center, while expressing concerns about the practical deployment of these new technologies.   IT is also struggling to support new workforce expectations for mobile access to information anytime, anywhere, with any device, balanced against the need to maintain security and support business goals.

Data Center Trends, Concerns, Priorities from the Cisco Connected World Report:

In October, Part I of the survey results revealed that workers desire flexible access to corporate information from any mobile device, anywhere, anytime. Part II results released in November revealed disconnects in expectations and policies between IT and workers. Today’s survey results provide proof that IT managers are evolving their data center strategies as their workforce and businesses evolve, taking advantage of new technologies and trends, while working to accommodate social media, video, and increasingly mobile workers.

  2. It’s amazing to see how the business world is evolving. The increase in cloud computing, as well as the use of Software as a Service platforms are contributors to this shift. SaaS platforms enable processes from CRM to portfolio analysis solutions. These advancements are improving the efficiency in the way business is conducted as well as decreasing costs, enabling almost anybody to have access to such technologies that are hosted in the cloud.
