The Parlotones on Stage in Moscow
South African rock band The Parlotones have been making use of Cisco technology to get to new followers. While fans waited for their first live concert in Russia in early November, the South African rock band paid a virtual visit to Moscow via Cisco TelePresence.
From London, they joined a press conference hosted by Cisco Russia and discussed their upcoming tour with local music journalists. Then the scene shifted to the halls of the Moscow World Trade Center, where – still using Cisco TelePresence technology -- The Parlotones gave a transcontinental virtual concert for visitors of the annual Cisco Expo ICT forum.
Here’s a short video of The Parlotones’ virtual visit to Moscow:
Leonid Burlakov, musical producer and promoter of The Parlotones in Russia said after the session that the “technology produces a stunning effect. It gave me the impression that the musicians and myself are staying in the same room. I am absolutely sure that this is technology of the future. We are on the brink of a new era in show business”.

Now its going to be popular to make concert under internet like U2 did recently with millions of followers from youtubeI think also this is the technology of the future wich our sons will use to go to some concerts.
wow…amazing..combine music and technology
I can attest that guitars play really nicely on TelePresence. A couple of months ago we were meeting with one of our design partners, whom we had written an amusing song for. I brought a 12-string guitar to the meeting and my team and I sang the song to our counterparts in Virginia to kick off the meeting.By all accounts the sound quality (if the the playing itself) was excellent!
My friend in Moscow visited this press conference and he said that sound was really amazing.
As a fellow South African living in the U.S. Since 2000 I can say This Rocks. This is awesome use of our technology and certainly shows ‘The Play’ in Work, Live, Play and Learn. I’m sure this is going to catch on fast. The Sound and video quality was great.
Awesome to see a homegrown (South African) band up there and making use of Cisco technology! You guys rock! (pun intended!)
i guess you will call me old fashioned but I think nothing replaces a live concert such as U2. I had the pleasure of attending and it was just incredible! Not just listening to the music but feeling it, smelling it and living with others watching it.I have a 21 year old son who is also a musician and he feels the same. With this said, I believe the Youtube live video streaming of the band is a fantastic marketing tool as it gives others a real sense of what it could be like and hence build their enthusiasm for catching them live in the future. The same for TP as a wonderful taster of what’s to come and to bring those who cannot attend live a little closer!
Its great to read this post.I would also like to share some history about Parlotones .The Parlotones began his career in 2006, playing in nightclubs at five or six in the audience, but a half years later released their first CD, which immediately received the status of gold. Their second disc (A World Next Door To Yours) drew the attention of British promoters. With their help musicians from South Africa gave about 400 concerts in Europe and performed at various festivals with Collective Soul, Evanescence, Jimmy Eat World, Kings of Leon, New Model Army, Metallica, Razorlight, Staind, Starsailor, The Gossip, The Rasmus, The Wombats, UB40 and Violent Femmes. November 8 for the first time the group will arrive in Russia and perform in Moscow.
I agree with you this is technology of the future. Internet users and fans will love this.Bring on the new era in show business.I cant wait.I love it, here is to Cisco TelePresence technology. Thumbs Up.
so now we can even saw a concert such as Band Perfomances on internet by TelePresence. Amazing how technology able to do that!
Nice project where art meets communication and high tech, this is clearly the future of music
they fans might be happy that they were able to see the telecast
I am absolutely sure that this is technology of the future and their fans might be happy.
I agree that one of the natural progressions of technology in action is through Entertainment, especially with music. It is universal. I was so touched by another global grass roots effort of connecting people through music that i HOPE somehow, someday our technology can enhance what they have ignited

This is great. Now you can enjoy live shows from the comfort of your home!
This type of technology could / should be used to help with medical procedures, very interesting reading on this topic, Thanks for taking the time to post this.
This has been a direction that some big named bands have been taking in recent months. People can’t afford to go to concerts but they can afford to watch them from the comfort of their own home. I think we will see the technology to make things like this happen grow even more in the very near future.
Wow. Amazing technology. I hope our company buys this soon. We have weekly conference with our Japan office and our calls like like desktop webcams!
I’m sorry – this is not a performance (or it is the the strictest sense of the word), not a musical performance. They are lip syncing their recording. Nothing more than an MTV video moment. Did you see any electric guitars? drums? basses being played? Huh? this is no more than a studio trick.Let me know when a band is willing to take a chance and actually play over TP.cheers
I am happy about the future for the fans, WOW!!!
That sounds and looks so great.I also got the feeling, like the audience did, that this is a live performance.I wonder what affect this technology-of-the-future will have, once it will be widely spread, on traveling and on meeting people from over the world…
they fans might be happy that they were able to see the telecast
wow…amazing..combine music and technology
brooke – we’re happy to set up this kind of event again if you have a band that is interested in participating… I think there’s a healthy debate in the music community around performing live in TV show appearances as well. shoot me an email if you have ideas – Cisco PR contacts are accessible via http://Newsroom.cisco.com
technology of the future and their fans might be happy!
music and technology are doing the best things right now
Thank you , that great. i hope the future the technology nearly to grow up more than now.
Amazing, Telepresence is a future great way to reach all the fans around the world.
Cisco deserve this : Cisco engineers have been leadersin the development of Internet Protocol (IP)-based networking technologies.Today, this tradition of innovation continues with industry-leading productsand solutions in the company’s core development areas of routing andswitching, as well as in advanced technologies.

thats great event.combine music and technology comes together..WOW
I still get shivers down my spine from watching recorded performances on youtube. There are only so many concerts you can attend. I love that technology has been developed to aid this.
I would like to more bands taking technology route.
Wow, great new technology! It opens so many new ways and make our life easier.

i agree with aliend…i feel the same ..shld see what impact does it have on future
No more pain to visit and worry about parking just sit back at home and enjoy live shows
I don’t watch them for years, they’ve just had a new project: the Blind Watchman. ‘You can sleep when you’re dead’. This seems to be Khan’s philosophy as the SA muso workaholic gets ready to launch his new side project band.
