You likely read about our small business networking announcement yesterday. We unveiled a global initiative and a $100 million investment focused on those businesses that typically fall under the radar of most ‘big’ IT companies: the sub-100 employee category.We made the announcement at Channel Exchange here in Lisbon, Portugal, a country whose economy has been fueled in recent years by exceptionally high levels of broadband deployment and Internet adoption . The venue seems appropriate given our belief that the second phase of the Internet has much to offer small businesses too.Before we left for Lisbon, I cornered Ian Pennell, SVP of our newly-created Small Business Technology Group, and Andrew Sage, the VP who oversees our new small business sales strategy, and asked them a few questions about our new small business initiative. Over the past two and a half days, cloud computing has been a recurring theme at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. Lots of opinions on cloud structures, the opportunities for new business models, who will benefit, etc…..the big constant is that cloud is the next evolution of computing. Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior participated in a panel this morning with Tim O’Reilly and Shane Robison, CTO of HP. Here is part of their conversation. What do you think?
Yesterday at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco you could easily see that we are in a new age of innovation as different technology leading vendors showed their vision for how Web 2.0 will transform how we work and play.One interesting proof of concept demonstration was between Rod Smith of IBM’s Emerging Technology Group and Guido Jouret of Cisco’s Emerging Technology Group. Together they demonstrated their Web 2.0 vision and explored how mash-ups and live video can be used together to bring immediate business value.
