News@Cisco Week in Review and Look Ahead: March 14-18

It’s almost the weekend and you know what that means…it’s time for The News@Cisco Week in Review and Look Ahead! Check out what you might have missed this week and what to look out for.

1.)  The Dawn of the Networked Remote Control

Remote controls have been an indispensible, and frequently annoying, part of television watching since Zenith introduced the Space Commander, the first practical wireless remote, 55 years ago. But the days of the familiar clicker may finally be numbered as smartphones and tablets take over the duties of remotes. Learn more about these new devices!

2.)  More Than Just Humans Using Mobile Networks

Ten years from now you might get a shock if you tried listening into mobile phone conversations. In Western Europe and the United States, at least, it is possible that half the time you would not hear a human voice; just the hum and buzz of data going from one machine to another. It will not be because the human race has been partly replaced by robots, but due to a trend which is gathering momentum already: machine-to-machine (or M2M) mobile communication. Learn more about this new development!

3.) Supporting Disaster Relief in Japan

Here at Cisco our hearts go out to those affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Read here to learn more about Cisco’s immediate response to the disaster and ways for you to get involved.

4.)  Talk2Cisco Recap: Work Life Redesign—What You Need to Know

“Embrace change, experiment and leverage,” says Carlos Dominguez Senior Vice President at Cisco, in order for you and your business to stay relevant. The latest episode of Talk2Cisco Carlos is joined by Lance Perry, Vice President of Information Technology at Cisco. Watch highlights from the live broadcast!

5.) Vote for Cisco in the Social Media March Madness Tournament!

Winners are based on the number of votes so head over to the Business2Community’s site to vote for Cisco. The voting period ends on April 4th. Thanks for your help!

As always, check out what to look out for next week…

  • Meet Cisco Innovator’s Neil Diener and Walt Shaw. Diener and Shaw led the team behind Cisco Clean Air technology. Clean Air is a feature of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network that improves air quality by detecting RF interference that other systems can’t recognize, identifying the source, locating it on a map and finally, making automatic adjustments to optimize wireless coverage. Learn more on Monday!
  • Cloudburst: Cloud computing innovation: Cloud computing is often associated with business cost savings and IT efficiency, but that is to greatly underplay its role as a facilitator of innovation. Check out this feature next week!
