US News: Cisco CEO John Chambers “One of America’s Best Leaders 2009”

We are very honored and humbled to have Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers on this year’s list of “America’s Best Leaders” as determined by US News and World Report and Harvard Center for Public Leadership.

He indeed is in great company with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers venture capitalist John Doerr, Costco CEO Jim Sinegal, Senator Orrin Hatch, Senator Ted Kennedy, former Astronaut Sally Ride, MIT President Susan Hockfield and more.  Sincere congratulations to John and to all of these other fine leaders.  See the full list here.

Professor of Management Michael Useem, director of the Center for Leadership and Change Management at the University of Pennsylvania’ s Wharton School, writes in his profile of John:

“No autocrat, no worrier, Chambers is often described as the ebullient learn-from-errors pragmatist for whom a better world is the calling, not the perks or the power. Famous for his all-hands meetings at Cisco, Chambers is the very definition of stage presence, speaking confidently, decisively, forthrightly. His optimism and buoyancy have made him one of the premier technology advocates of the day.

On mention of his selection as a Best Leader, he insisted it was really a recognition of his team. And he’d like to be remembered, he said, for how “we changed the way the world works, lives, learns, and plays.”

See the full profile of John Chambers here.

How the list was picked.

The man was also awarded by Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” and the 2009 Pioneer Business Leader Award from the Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

These are just few facts which are evident to the caliber of Mr. John Chambers

Congrats John! What a rare and humble response to such an honor. Leaders continue to show their colors in such a rough economic state and that only makes this recognition all the more impressive.

I couldn’t agree more with John Chambers being picked as one of the best leaders if not THE best leader in business today. I have kept close tabs on how he runs his company and hope to model my decisions and strategy after his. I can’t say I agree with everyone they picked on the list but this was a well deserved pick and congratulations.
