“Reinventing Cisco” and Cisco Nexus Data Center Switch

Mark Boslet of the San Jose Mercury News wrote an interesting story on our use of collaborative technology and collaborative management in Sunday’s paper.  The story is entitled “Reinventing Cisco,” with the sub-head reading “Networking Giant Took on Two Major Projects in ‘07, Vows to Tackle 20 in ‘08 As It Pursues New Markets.”

Boslet writes, Cisco “is remaking the way it does business. With the goal of boosting productivity and profit while managing its rapid expansion, Cisco is turning itself into a showcase for Web 2.0 technologies such as social networking, blogging and online collaboration.  The driving force behind the initiative is Chief Executive John Chambers’ belief that the second phase of the Internet revolution is under way and it could be more far-reaching than the first.”  Read it, in full, here.

And on the “reinventing” side of things, we today announced our Cisco Nexus 7000 Series - the first Data Center Class Switching Platform.  You can read more about it at our sister Data Center Blog here.  And, if you don’t want to read what we have to say, read this story by John Markoff of The New York Times who writes: the new switch has the capacity to “transfer all 90,000 Netflix movies in 38.4 seconds or send a two-megapixel digital image to every human being on earth in 28 minutes.”
