President Obama’s Findings of the 60-Day Online Security Review

Today President Obama made an announcement regarding the findings of the 60-day review of the nation’s online security systems (.pdf document) and its recommendations for improvement.

As a contributor to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) report for the Obama Administration, “Cybersecurity Recommendations for the 44th Presidency”, I highly supported the key recommendation for a stronger, more collaborative public-private partnership. This is an overarching theme in a series of video blogs I recorded to encourage the public and private sectors to collaborate more closely as a means to increase our nation’s security posture.

Technology has certainly changed our world and most are using it for good, though some not. At a national level, the United States needs to break through the tough challenges associated with public-private partnerships to help preserve national and economic interests for both sides. At the international level, we are all interconnected and should demand more of ourselves as we seek common ground.

I’m excited today because of the focused discussion about online security. This debate, where many different voices from the public and private sectors are given voice and being heard, is a significant step forward. The good news is that more organizations, companies, and nations are working together to determine what is, and is not, acceptable, and providing leading practice guidance for the next generation to work, live, and play safely in the online environment.

Below, please find some video where I share my thoughts on how a more collaborative partnership between the public and private sectors can help advance our online security. I hope you find them informative.
