Utilities around the world are joining with government and industry to modernize the global electrical infrastructure for the 21st century. Enabling the “Smart Grid” is one of Cisco’s top priorities and is a market adjacency that has the possibility of becoming Cisco’s largest opportunity since the Internet. As we announced today relationships with new partners, customers and industry organizations to make the vision of Smart Grid a reality, we’re also lining up an all-star cast to manage Cisco’s efforts in this exciting space.
I’m extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Ipsen as the new Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Smart Grid Business Unit. In Laura’s new role she will be responsible for executing on Cisco’s Smart Grid vision and strategy, developing and building a complete product and services portfolio, and communicating to our customers, partners and shareholders.
Laura’s past experience prepares her well for the many opportunities and challenges of smart grid. As head of Cisco Global Policy and Government Affairs, Laura has a proven track record and years of work with U.S. and international industry standards bodies as well as government leaders, which will prove invaluable as Cisco navigates the regulated utilities industry.
In addition, Laura has also been very active on a number of Cisco Boards including as co-chair of the Cisco EcoBoard where she has been instrumental in developing and implementing the company’s environmental mission and strategy.
With today’s smart grid-related news, we have put the pieces in place to implement Cisco’s vision of a standards-based, end-to-end Smart Grid communications infrastructure. I am confident Laura will lead us well in this endeavor.
