Cisco CTO on Cloud Computing
Over the past two and a half days, cloud computing has been a recurring theme at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. Lots of opinions on cloud structures, the opportunities for new business models, who will benefit, etc…..the big constant is that cloud is the next evolution of computing.
Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior participated in a panel this morning with Tim O’Reilly and Shane Robison, CTO of HP. Here is part of their conversation.

Cloud computing is focused on the “experience layer” which resides above the application layer. This user-centric layer essentially creates yet another level of abstraction—meaning, it’s about the inherent value that users extract from the application.
IN this model, the platform implementation is totally transparent. The browser window is the focal point, and what occurs in the background is irrelevant. The end result, users are able to focus purely on their transaction needs, and the underlying technology is invisible.
The “experience layer” is grounded in superior user experience design—it’s more about the human factor expertise being applied, and less about the software code methodologies being used.
In fact, in the cloud computing model, the most valued perspective is that of an social ethnographer, not a software coder.
