Cisco helps the 22nd Australian Scout Jamboree Reach New Digital Heights

The Australian Scout Jamboree is the biggest event in the Australian scouting calendar and this year the 22nd Australian Jamboree, was the largest since Australia hosted the World Jamboree in 1988. Around 12,000 scouts, leaders and volunteers converged from all points of the country and the globe at Cataract Scout Park in New South Wales, Australia to camp for two weeks of fun, adventure and friendship.

This year Cisco Australia and New Zealand supported the vision for a digital jamboree, setting a new standard for jamborees with an integrated technology platform that enabled attendees to stay connected and share their experiences with family and friends as well as scouting communities around Australia and abroad.

The vision of the Australian Jamboree organizers combined with the intelligent wired and wireless  networking technology provided by Cisco, worked to create a number of world firsts for the Australian Scout Jamboree, including:

  • Live online video broadcast of the opening and closing ceremonies, key events and entertainment so family and friends at home had the opportunity to experience some of what their loved one was experiencing at the jamboree. More than 1,800 people viewed the opening ceremony online and the closing ceremony attracted almost 4,000 viewers.
  • The Australian Scout Jamboree website was also used as a platform for video content, images of the various events, video-on demand audiocasts of the jamboree radio station and the delivery of jambograms from loved ones.
  • Cisco Flip Video cameras were used to capture memories and experiences at the jamboree. The scouts also worked together to create their own short films, competing to win a Flip video of their own.  Check out the Flip Videos on the ScoutsAJ2010 YouTube Channel here.
