Cisco today announced its intent to acquire privately held CoreOptics Inc., a designer of digital signal processing (DSP) solutions for high-speed optical networking applications. According to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index research, global IP traffic will increase fivefold from 2008 to 2013 with a 40 percent compound annual growth rate. CoreOptics will enable Cisco to equip service provider customers with highly advanced 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) transmission technology to scale their networks to meet the demands of rapidly growing Internet Protocol traffic driven by video, mobility and cloud services.
Can you please explain a little further on what the major implications this acquisition will have in the nearest future?thanks you.
YEAH, that rocks!
Looks like a very clever strategic acquisition with focus on the internet demand on the next years. Good to know that improvements are coming.
100 Gigabits per second sounds absolutely great! Thanks, it’s very interesting to read about comming opportunities.
A 500% increase. Wow no wonder we need to get ready for this new age.
Interesting article. As the Internet becomes ever more popular and spreads to various countries (including underdeveloped countries) traffic is going to continue to grow. This will be even so as the globe is becoming more and more dominated by information processing and transmission. It’s good to know that CISCO is up to the challenge of helping to cope with these demands.
This is realy interesting.Global IP traffic will increase fivefold from 2008 to 2013 with a 40 percent compound annual growth rate.I cant think this.
That is a really nice step considering that it will benefit all the users of CISCO technologies. I would like to know more about the Target and who all advised you for the transaction.
Looks like an interesting acquisition. I run a number of dating sites that make heavy use of HD video streaming and could do with this sort of speed now! Have been running Cisco stuff for years so hoping the good times continue.
There seems to be more and more news about extremely high speed internet coming out. Im really excited! The days of dial up are still fresh in my mind…
