Cisco Joins Second Life

With the launch of Cisco’s latest Integrated Services Router (ISR) Empowered Branch launch, Cisco has taken its first step into Second Life. Our first foray in Second Life was the launch of the new ISR product, but this is just the beginning of the Cisco’s campus in Second Life.

For Cisco, it is about the Human Network. Part of that is becoming part of communities in Real Life, and now, in Second Life. We opened the Cisco campus to better explain and show who we are, what we are about, and how we are powering the Human Network. And, that means more than just showcasing products (or, giving away T-shirts and virtual Cisco phones in Second Life). It means working with the community, becoming part of the community.

Today we open two campuses: The first is for the SL community to come and learn about our products and services, as well as offer us suggestions on how we can become a bigger (and better) part of Second Life. The campus also has an amphitheater for events, and an area for the soon-to-be-built Cisco Field.

The second island is for our community, our customers and employees to interact closely with each other and Cisco technical and executive staff. Part of Cisco’s focus this year is the Carbon initiative: to save the environment by cutting down on travel. This new virtual campus is part of that philosophy, offering training and education in Second Life to our partners, as well as executive briefings and technical support. We are also expanding our Cisco Network Academy program into the metaverse by offering extension classes to NetAcad instructors and students. It is our goal to bridge the Real Life with the Second Life, and offer support and services in both.

Please come visit us in Second Life* – we look forward to seeing you there!

by: Ilya VedrashkoInspired by KZero's map of brand presence in Second Life, I thought about compiling a more usable list with SL URLs and everything, but then I found a fairly complete one over at SL Business Communicators wiki. Instead,... [Read More]

Do you have any white papers on how cisco engineered a safe network access to Second Life for employees?

I like the SL concept. My company is a Cisco partner. Could we use the SL campus for doing customer meetings/demos when featuring Cisco products?
