SXSW Recap: Panels, Concerts and Showcases
SXSW has become an increasingly important event for the media and entertainment industry. The numbers themselves are telling—the show has had five+ years of double digit growth, and organizers said there was a 40 percent increase in registrations for the interactive portion this year compared to 2010. On the music and film side, organizers said that last week, the city of Austin, TX saw 2,000 bands perform on 92 stages, and there were more than 275 film screenings.
While the conference and festival’s increased prominence brings more eyeballs, it also means it’s harder to stand out from the crowd. Brands need a strong online presence to create interest and drive audiences to their physical events.
Not only did we participate in the conference portion of the festival, but Cisco Eos powered the sites behind Atlantic Records’ SXSW events, driving interest and real value over the course of this much anticipated event. These turned out to be some of the highlights of SXSW:
Our week started off with an interesting panel session moderated by the Editorial Director of Billboard Magazine, Bill Werde and featuring our own SVP and GM of the Cisco Media Solutions Group, Dan Scheinman. Dan sat alongside Paul Sinclair of Atlantic Records; Hannah Hooper from the band GroupLove; and Michael Fiebach of Fame House to address the question of: “You’ve Built a Social Network, Now What?” Their panel discussed the future of media in a social world and delved into how “social entertainment,” such as interactive website features, can build brands, engage audiences and increase content consumption.
We were able to put the strategies discussed in this panel to the test through the Cisco Eos-enabled site for the Killers, Lasers, Papers showcase on Thursday, March 17. This show, presented by Atlantic Records and Elektra Records, featured the musical talents of Donnis, B.o.B., Wiz Khalifa, and Janelle Monae. The Cisco Eos-powered website itself provided a community for SXSW attendees and those who couldn’t make it, to watch a live stream of the show; chat; or enter to win prizes, such as a customized Flip MinoHD™.
In between participating in all of those exciting events, we also had a fun time at the Cisco Eos booth. There, we met with attendees, answered questions and demonstrated the Cisco Eos platform. Your interest and questions were much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you at an equally successful SXSW show next year!Tags:
