One of the demonstrations we showed at Automation Fair this week was the Cisco Digital Media Suite for Manufacturing. Cisco Digital Media Suite extends digital media to new applications for real-time and on-demand communications with flexible digital media creation, management, and publishing of content in various formats to multiple devices.
Here’s a quick video showing an overview of this solution and its benefits for manufacturers:
The Digital Media Suite in a plant can be used to keep non-desktop personnel informed of plant performance, operations, events and outages. In a noisy production environment, it is ideal for use as a safety application informing personnel of situations and giving them timely information and guidance. In addition, DMS can serve as a means to distribute executive communications, training and any other video-based information quickly and broadly.
Our customers tell us that not only does it typically replaces things like traditional hand-written boards, posted daily production reports and such but also single computer stations /one-off computer screens on the plant floor. In fact, a leading manufacturer of engines and motorcycles uses the solution in one of their factories as a video wall to stream announcements, key production metrics and line information, warehouse data and surveillance video just to name a few. Additionally, the screens consisting the video wall are independent, resulting in the ability to scale the solution to the specific environment in which it is placed.
DMS delivers business value for the production environment including:
– Higher productivity through real-time communication with plant personnel
– Improved worker safety via real-time communication in emergency situations
– Lower training/communication costs – communicate directly and in real-time with personnel in-situation vs. physical meeting
