Manufacturing

In 2-3 sentences

The team is back in town and recovering after a tremendous showing in Chicago for Automation Fair. As a preview for the blogs to come in the next few weeks, I asked each team member to summarize the event in 2-3 sentences – about 15 seconds of reading time. Here’s what they said:

Paul Didier: No one asks “Why is Cisco here?”  It’s clear by the overwhelming traffic in our Ecosystem booth: converged networks based on standard technologies that Cisco delivers are the basis of plant networking today.  Cisco is driving value and innovation based on that convergence, as shown with our Plant-floor collaboration and security demonstrations.

Peter Granger: It was an excellent show all round. Chet Namboodri and I spent a lot of time with the press both on our own as Cisco and also partnering with our key Alliance partner, Rockwell. Both the press and the customer attendees were pleased to see how much progress we have made in terms of listening to their needs and coming up with the right solutions to their business care-abouts and their technical challenges.

Mark Wylie: Automation Fair, what a fantastic venue to see what is new from Rockwell Automation and the partner network, plus catch up with old friends. Cisco again captivated people with video collaboration shown throughout multiple booths (well, one) as Cisco demonstrated the power of video to the factory and machine builder alike. The Cisco team, energized by their turquoise garb, entertained more than 400 customers in lively demonstrations of networking of the Internet of Things while devices were brought from all over.

Kevin Davenport: It was very apparent at this year’s Rockwell Automation Fair that our customers and partners are not only embracing the technologies and products around the Converged Plantwide Ethernet architecture, but are counting on the Cisco/Rockwell Alliance to address their future technical, operational and business imperatives.

Chet Namboodri: In addition to press and analyst dialogue, the customer interaction and deep engagement between Cisco and RA was the best I’ve seen.  My week closed on Thursday night having dinner with the Global Director for Automation and Controls for PSA Peugeot Citroen alongside Cisco’s IA BDM Pierre Guillemaud and the PSA account manager from Rockwell Automation (RA).  We were able to open up the conversation with Mssr. Sudan from just seeking to displace Hirschman when PSA deploys RA controls to a discussion of Cisco as the global standard IE networking platform, whether RA, Schneider, Siemens or ABB controls are deployed.  This is additional to our work with PSA Corporate IT to standardize Cisco from Enterprise through to plant DMZ.  I feel confident we’ll see incremental business at PSA, and what a great way to end a terrific week at Automation Fair!

Stay tuned to our blog for lots more  discussion and analysis from the team about what went down at Automation Fair!
