(almost) real-time social media
We wanted our social media strategy for this year’s Automation Fair to be (almost) real-time; we wanted you to feel like you were attending the event as it unfolded.
Additionally, if you were at the event and weren’t able to see everything, then we wanted you to be able to catch-up on things you may have missed. So if you didn’t make it to our booth on the first day, then you could see a preview of what we had to offer to make sure you visited the second day.
Essentially, this is how we accomplished our goal:
- We had a team live at the event in Chicago, and we also had a team back here in San Jose (2 hours behind Chicago)
- The team in Chicago would take as many pictures and videos as their schedule permitted while live on the Automation floor. They would then immediately transfer those files back to the team in San Jose.
- The team in San Jose feverishly compiled those files, and then used them to create videos and blogs which we uploaded ASAP. It took about 2 hours to create, edit and upload each video. The videos were uploaded to our Manufacturing YouTube channel.
- Also, while this compilation and editing was being done, the images and updates we received from our Chicago team were immediately posted on Twitter, Flickr, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Once the videos and blogs were posted, we used all available social media amplification channels to disseminate our content.
During the 2 day event, we posted 4 videos and 6 blogs, all of which could have been viewed and read while you were still at Automation Fair.
The 4 ‘live’ videos we created were very successful: they received over 3180 views!
We had a lot of fun, and we hope that we were able to bring Automation Fair to you in (almost) real-time.
