Inspirational innovations

When Barack Obama kicked off his online town hall meeting recently, he accomplished yet another innovative endeavor in his presidency. No other US presidents have ever reached out to the public and grass roots the way he has, utilizing the full power of the Internet and technologies to connect with the main street.

Customers are asking the same effort in the information security arena. They are looking for new solutions that can help them secure their business environment, with easy deployment and management in the mean time. I’m very excited about the major progress made in Cisco’s Identity-Based Networking Services (IBNS).  It is just such an innovative solution for customers.

802.1X, one of the core elements in Cisco IBNS, is well-known for its ability to provide port-based network access control in a secure and scalable manner. Legacy devices and other compatibility issues, however, have impeded wide adoption of 802.1X for the wired networks across corporate LANs. I find it impressive how Cisco IBNS addresses these issues by providing a series of user-friendly implementation modes to make 802.1X easy to deploy and to maintain. This is just one example of the recent advancement. I’ll make a presentation at Interop 2009, Las Vegas, to talk more on this topic.  Hope to see you there!

If you want to explore the excitement right now, you can begin with the Cisco IBNS website.

What innovative solutions are you working on?
