Today, we’re at ARISE Charter High School in Oakland, CA for a “wireless takeover.” Cisco is giving away  “Valet” Wireless Routers and Valet Connector Wireless USB Adapters to the entire student body of ARISE Charter High School, for use in their homes – we’re equipping students with these essential tools to support 21st-century learning.

The need for a seamless school-to-home connection is even more important than ever, yet only one-third of U.S. homes are equipped with wireless. Cisco is addressing this need with a simple way to help more families benefit from home wireless.

As you read this, City of Oakland elected officials and school board members will be present at the high school to speak on the importance of technology in the classroom and at home. Some of the guests include Mayor Jean Quan, Mayor of Oakland, Claudia Burgos, Sr. Policy Analyst to Council member Ignacio De La Fuente, Noel Gallo, Board President, Oakland Unified School District, and Tony Smith, Superintendent, Oakland Unified School District.

Today’s high school students benefit from a wireless-enabled home that is well-equipped for them to succeed academically and maximize learning from home-to-school. Easy and flexible web access in the home helps parents provide their children an improved learning environment, and helps to close the digital divide.

What about your family? Do you feel that easy wireless internet access is beneficial to youth education?
