Cisco Live! Customer Appreciation Event
This year, Cisco Live!, the industry’s premier education and training event for IT, networking, and communications professionals, made its home in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. It kicked off on Sunday, June 27th and just wrapped up last night, July 1st.
While the show is typically geared to enterprise and service provider customers, everyone’s a consumer, too – right?, so the Cisco Consumer team moved its tack to Vegas for the show. We showed off our latest wares in a consumer-sponsored lounge space as well as in a private room for the NetVets, a small group of Cisco Live! regulars, who, after succumbing to the effortless simplicity of Flip Video and Valet products despite their attempts to turn them into CRS routers, were treated to tee-shirts and product giveaways.
After a long but informative week, the show offered a reprieve to its guests at Wednesday’s Customer Appreciation Event (CAE). The event took place at the MGM Grand Arena, the famous graveyard of Evander Holyfield’s ear and home to many major concerts and special events, this time taken over by thousands of networking pros adorning Elvis wigs (spoiler alert: the hats are always relevant to the talent at the show. Last year they gave away Devo Domes).
The Arena was set up with two stages on the main floor, the smaller for impersonator band Legends in Concert, the larger for the UltraSonic Rock Orchestra and Smash Mouth. The ops around the event were seamless: when one stage cleared the other started right up. This facilitated plenty of smiles, funky dance moves and fist pumps that crescendoed throughout the gig; although it’s not difficult to get pumped up with you’re eating Kobe beef sliders, drinking free beer and wearing an Elvis wig.
For all of you who weren’t at CAE or didn’t get 27 Flip Video shares from your friends who were, here are a few videos to give you the flavor of what you missed. We hope to see you at Cisco Live! 2011.
Meet Thelma – the most enthusiastic staffer I met all week. She was a pro at getting people pumped up for the event. And clearly into Prince.
Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra. Question: what song are they playing here?
The female demographic was a big fan. By the end they boxed out the front few rows by the stage to shake his hand….or try for a bit more. You’ll have to read a more risqué blog for those videos.
