Cisco Consumer Video Strategy Takes Stage
There’s no doubt about it – the band Paramore is hot. Fresh off a summer ’09 tour with No Doubt, the band released their third studio album “brand new eyes” in September and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. To top that off, the band just wound down a headlining tour covering 18 cities across the US in a little over a month during which they participated in countless promotional visits including a stop on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. They head off to Europe next.
What does this hot band have in common with Cisco?
Well, their Web site Paramore.net is powered by Cisco Eos and Eos is enabling Paramore to connect with their fans in new ways through features like discussion forums, mobile upload tools and a video portal. The video portal was recently hyper-active while Paramore ran a Flip Video™ Contest during the second half of their fall tour. The contest yielded 125 qualified submissions and of those the band and its ParaWebCrew voted on the top 5. Owners of the top two submissions won a Flip MinoHD camera.
Contest winners were announced on November 18th – check them out here.
Video strategy in motion. This contest is a good early example of Cisco’s broader consumer vision – consumers capturing video with a device like Flip, sharing that video with others in a social entertainment experience on an Eos site, all delivered digitally to the consumer by the global IP network. As the number of IP devices proliferates, the boundaries around this content will stretch. As a music lover myself, I know how cool it would be to take a Flip video of one of my favorite bands, instantaneously upload it to an Eos site and then watch that video on TV at home.
