I Love It When A Plan Comes Together
In the 1980s, there was an American television show called The A-Team. The lead character in that series, ‘Hannibal’ Smith (played by George Peppard) had a catch-phrase that turned up in most episodes: “I love it when a plan comes together.” That’s what I like about working at Cisco—you get to see the plans coming together.
Flash to last February, when we launched Cisco EnergyWise. Most analysts and press were very positive. Cisco EnergyWise was seen as innovative because it took advantage of this simple fact: Networking is so ubiquitous that it touches every part of a business. Why not exploit this to give the network more relevance, and solve bigger problems than just passing packets? And this was just the beginning.
Now this technology is even more widely available on our product offerings, and partners like IBM and SolarWinds are integrating the technology in their management platforms. But we’re also introducing further enhancements, too, like the Cisco LAN Management System (LMS), which now provides a plug-in module to configure, monitor and troubleshoot Cisco EnergyWise. It’s been an exciting several months for Cisco EnergyWise, with a lot more innovation and integration to come.
What I find is that you can usually tell when a technology is doing well, when it is integrated into the larger Cisco vision. Cisco EnergyWise – along with the Cisco Network Building Mediator - is a key component of the Cisco Business Energy Management (BEM) solution. And BEM is one of the solutions that addresses the demand side of the Cisco Smart Grid strategy. Having just come back from Gridweek in DC, I’m especially excited about where this is going.
See what I mean? The plan is coming together. And I love it.
